This morning I was listening to “Autumn” by Strawbs.  I started thinking this could be fun for you to cover.  Look it up and tell me what you think.

    Hi Lynn,

I just listened to the song for the first time. Beautiful piece! The bass parts really stood out.

We have a bit of a soft spot for british prog-rock (thanks Dad ;-)) but I don’t really see ourselves covering an epic 8 minutes track at the moment. But who knows, maybe we’ll get the itch to go that route one day!

    Thanks for the question! 🙂

Nice song and some very beautiful Autum photos Joe. However, as Mona alludes to, not really their gig at the moment.

All we need from the Strawbs now is “Spring” and “Summer” and we have a modern day Bach!

    My apologies Joe.

Lynn, have they ever recorded songs called Summer or Spring?

Howard, they did a song called “The Winter and the Summer”.  Nothing about Spring as far as I know.  I kind of lost track of them after 1980.  I met my wife and went into a country music phase for a while (“He’s an old Hippy and he don’t know what to do.  Should he hang on to the old or should he grab on to the new.”) If you aren’t familiar with this Bellamy Brothers song, you should look it up (“Old Hippy”).

Thank you, Mona, for taking the time to listen to the song I suggested and answering my question.  I understand the hesitation to do an 8 minute song.  I would guess that “American Pie” would have to come first if you start doing songs that long.

Lynn, Strawbs is beautiful, the instrumentation is great, both Fall and Winter.  Those awesome videos Joe shared, wow, especially the Autumn video, some of those nature scenes are breathtaking, supernatural.  Reminds me of the painter of light, Thomas Kincaid’s work.

If Strawb completed their series with Spring and Summer, they could have a modern version of the 300 years old masterpiece series by Vivaldi called the Four Seasons.  I think Howard was eluding to that earlier.

Of course Jung. Vivaldi is what I meant. I have much Vivaldi music. About three decades ago, during a severe bout of depression, Vivaldi, and in particular ”Winter”, from ”Four Seasons”, and some Mozart was the only music I could listen to!

Howard, yeah Vivaldi and Mozart are great.  I think my very first foray into classical music was Vivaldi 4 seasons and a Mozart CD with different varieties of his works.  For the newbies here, do you know both Ray and Dave Davies were both admirers of Bach and got a lot of inspiration from Bach in their music.   A little trivia.
