A month ago I posted about this topic in response the “It Ain’t Me Babe – Duo Session video but the link to Mr. Tambourine Man does’t work any more so I’ll repeat here what I wrote. I love a lot of different styles of music but Dylan stuck a chord in me a long time ago &  I continue to be fascinated by his music. When I discovered the Mona Lisa Twins I felt that same sense of wonderment & admiration. Talent and charisma is hard to define but when you hear it you know it and it effects you deeply. Its very life affirming to hear people express themselves in ways that I never could.

I have too many favourite Bob Dylan songs  to mention but here are a few:

Like A Rolling Stone. Still sounds to me as explosive as the first time I heard it.

Its All Right Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) A song that many would consider cynical & pessimistic but to me its a celebration of the power of the individual to stand up to any thing society throws at him or her. Full of unforgettable lines.

Boots Of Spanish Leather. A simple but beautiful penetrating song . About love, lovesickness & betrayal.

Up To Me from the same sessions that resulted in his masterpiece Blood On The Tracks.

“I met somebody face to face and I had to remove my hat
She’s everything I need and love but I can’t be swayed by that
It frightens me, the awful truth of how sweet life can be
But she ain’t a-gonna make a  move, I guess it must be up to me”

Though, I like Dylan’s  songs, songwriting, it’s  his nasally singing voice, drives me cringeworthy, like hands across  chalkboard…lol…I can’t  listen to him singing, I just can’t, I’m sensitive to certain things, his voice is one of those things, can’t  tolerate , so I appreciate and am thankful that MLT have covered his stuff, so I can pleasantly  enjoy his songs through someone else’s  voice…sorry to say that  of Dylan but it’s true…certain smells, voices, etc have effect on me, and unfortunately  his  nasal singing , is one of those things, it irritates me that I cannot listen,  even for 5 mins, but if he does a duet, or sings along with others, it’s somewhat  more tolerable  for me…lol

Mr. Tambourine Man. To me its a song about surrendering yourself to the immense power of music. The ragged clown is the singer whose lyrics & voice are but a shadow of what the Tambourine man can reach through his music . This particular performance is like nothing I’ve ever heard. Its a one of a kind performance from his 1966 tour. The song doesn’t seem to be performed by him as much as through him. Have you ever heard harmonica like that?  Its as if the singer and us have fallen under a spell by that mesmerizing harmonica played by the Tambourine Man.

    Hi Jacki

I’ve heard that opinion expressed many times.   I think its just a matter of taste.  Some people can’t stand his voice & can’t understand why he is so admired  & others are in awe of him. His career has lasted almost  60 hears and his voice of course has gone through many changes. He doesn’t always sound so nasally irritating.

Lol…David, and he stills sounds nasally to me, though not quite as prominent,  but it’s still  there…so, it’s my firm and standing opinion  by me that you or no other can ever convince me, to change my thought  on Bob’s nasal singing voice, I love his songwriting, just not the voice, he does play a mean harmonica though, that of which I love…just not  the singing…lol, we’ll just leave it at that….?

Far be it from me to try & change your mind Jacki!  Besides the whole reason we’re all here is to  discover & celebrate the music of the Mona Lisa Twins. I think we can all agree about that.
