Chicago
Chicago is another band I got into in my teens. Again my brothers wonderful record collection featured in vinyl Chicago IX – Greatest Hits that I listened to over and over again and got to know every song on there. I think the Beatles song “Got To Get You Into My Life” from Revolver, which predates the formation of Chicago (1967) by at least 1 year, was a precursor to the Chicago sound with the brass section creating a sub-genre. I think even some of Paul McCartney and Wings songs in the 70s would also carry on that that sound.  A number of bands with a similar sound to Chicago would arise in the 70s like Little River Band, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Toto, Boston, Steve Miller etc…
Anyone else like Chicago?

Beatles – Got To Get You Into My Life
Now this sounds like it could appear on any Chicago album and would fit right in. A testament to the greatness of the Beatles. They did change and shape music indeed.

I like Chicago a lot too, Jung. I know we’ve talked about them and their sound some before. All other things being equal, I prefer songs with lots of brass in them to songs that are all about the guitar riffs.
I was introduced to them via the Brady kids’ cover of Saturday in the Park. My favorite song of theirs is 25 or 6 to 4, but I’m a fan of all the ones you mentioned.

David, those Brady Kids keep on impressing with songs they did, Saturday In The Park, wow. LOL. 25 or 6 to 4 is one of their best with great instrumentation with both the brass and guitar work. Going back it looks like Chicago was discussed more than a I realized. I think they deserve a post dedicated to them. 🙂

Chicago was a great band. But I was more of a Blood,Sweat and Tears guy. I love David Clayton Thomas voice.
My favorite Chicago song would be 25 or 6 to 4. Does anyone out there knows what that title means . Jung some great clips enjoyed them.

Joe, I just looked up the origin of the title last night on Wikipedia:Â “The song’s title is the time at which the song is set: 25 or 26 minutes before 4 am.”
I only know BS&T’s three big hits, but I love them all. Interestingly, they even did a cover of “Got to Get You Into My Life”.

You should listen to some of the cd’s or greatest hits by Blood,Sweat & Tears. Like I said I like David Clayton Thomas voice. Also the great Al Kooper, Steve Katz and Jim Fielder were in that band. If you get a chance check them out. You won’t regret it.

Jung
Another great topic my friend, Clour my world was played at our Wedding Song back in 1979. Piano is fabulous and that song was huge in the 1970’s for sure.
