• We’ll Meet Again

This old song seems to have a very significant ring these days as the world seems to be gripped by a looming 2nd wave of the pandemic.

The hardest part this year has been the isolation from people close to you that you can’t be with.  With the Canada/US border in lockdown I haven’t seen my brother who lives cross border in the USA for a year now.  The hardest one will be my Dad’s 93rd birthday this Tuesday, he will end up spending it alone in the care facility where he lives. Due to the strict lockdowns, family are prohibited from visiting.  I haven’t seen him in months, and at his age, time is a precious thing.

Glad to hear of some positive news of potential vaccines and their good efficacies for next year.

As George Harrison’s song goes, “All Things Must Pass”.

George Harrison – All Things Must Pass

Now the darkness only stays the night-time
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
It’s not always going to be this grey

    All things must pass
    All things must pass away
    All things must pass
    All things must pass away

That’s a lovely version of We’ll Meet Again with Julie Andrews.  My first experience of that song was in the finale of Dr. Strangelove, and if you’ve ever seen that movie you’ll understand how conflicted it makes me feel.

Fortunately it was also used at the end of a Muppet TV special which was one of the first things I recorded when we got our first VCR.  I watched it over and over.

I suppose we’re all going to miss visiting with loved ones in person for a while.  Thank goodness we at least have the technology to see and talk with them remotely.

Wow David, I’ve never seen that many muppets in one scene.  Their version cheers you up, like it.

There are many covers of this song online, and I like this acoustic one.  This guys rendition with his guitar is nice.

Yeah, the video conference really helps to close the distance these days.  It looks to be the new way of working and conducting business in the future too.  Though nothing can replicate a warm hug.  But thank God for the technology.

That is indeed a nice version, Jung.  His voice reminds me of the kind you’d hear in the high-treble recordings of the 1920’s.  I may be wrong, but it sounds to me like he’s playing the wrong chord at “happy to know that as you saw me go”.
