Dense fog +sub-freezing temps= WOW!
Beautiful hoar frost here in NW Illinois. Lasted all day so far due to remaining cold and no strong winds. Even man-made items like my bird feeding station become enchanting under nature’s influence!

Oops! My local meteorologist just pointed out that this is rime ice, not hoar frost. My bad! ????????

Very pretty, reminds me of the Great Ice Storm of 1998… It occurred over Eastern part of USA, Ontario and Quebec… it was pretty to look at but not pretty to hsvigate through and the hsvoc and grief it caused… We had our first big winter snowfall the other day in Ottawa, most of since then melted and then some new light snowfall activity with mildish temperatures … Yo-yo Winter Temperatures and Weather Effects going on …

Those pictures look very beautiful and peaceful Jefferey. They look like pretty Christmas post cards. Where I am in the Canadian Pacific Northwest we rarely get freezing rain. Back in the 80s when I lived in Toronto Ontario for a couple of years, I experienced my first winter and tons of snow and lots of freezing rain. I remember getting up in the mornings to find a smooth blanket of ice that would cover the entire neighbourhood. It was one flowing ice sheet smoothly blanketing the whole yard, drive way and the car. Had to find a pick to crack through the ice to get in the car. Wipers were completely frozen to the wind shield. Getting to the car was an ordeal as it was so, so slippery. The 4 little steps from the front door to the driveway was treacherous. Lots of fun! 🙂

Yes, Jung, freezing rain is the worst! I once drove home from a long weekend about 150 miles in a freezing rain storm. On one long hill, I got a run to make it, and just before cresting the hill had to dodge a ???? sliding backwards down the hill toward me. Sure thanked God for getting me home that day! This freezing fog we just had posed no hazards, just provided beauty!
