Any Bee Gee fans out there.
Barry’s had come out with a new cd that features various country artist singing the Bee Gee’s song. The title is Greenfields Songbook Vol.1, Artist to name a few are
Dolly, Miranda Lambert, Tommy Emmanuel, Alison Krauss, Jason Isbell, Keith Urban, and Olivia Newton John. I thought they did a fine job.

I remember a lot of great numbers from their pre-disco days.
I had their 1st greatest hits album.

Thomas I have the first greatest hits cd too.
I like them best when they did those songs Thomas. The disco stuff I could take or leave.
It’s the same with the Stones.

I like the Bee Gees very much, but wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan or anything. I’m definitely not a country fan. However, I do enjoy hearing songs (especially iconic ones) redone in a totally different interpretation. My favorite version of “To Love Somebody” is probably the Animals, but it’s been covered by so many, including Hank Williams Jr.

Hey Joe, how are you doing! I remember back in the late 70s after the Bee Gees became a household name riding the disco wave, I discovered their earlier pre-disco greatest hits 1969 album, and had a new found respect for them. I Started A Joke, Massachussetts, Word, Holiday are so great. I have to admit a few of their disco hits like Stayin Alive, Jive Talkin when I first heard it I thought sounded cool too.

Hi Roger, that Animal’s version of To Love Somebody, sounds like the Rolling Stones doing it! Nice.
Thomas, my earliest freshest memory of Disco was when my friend and I listened to his brand new album by a group called KC and The Sunshine Band (That’s The Way I Like It). It sounded cool for a few months, and then…. 🙂

The thing is…
can any of us remember when the disco stuff was fresh after three years of hearing nothing else ?
I think it was innovative. But then the radio forgot to play anything else.
I liked the mining disaster song a lot on that early Greatest Hits album.

I know there were better songs they did that were great. But this one is my all time favorite.

Joe, that’s a great one too. In fact on that 1969 Greatest Hits album, I like every song on there.
Here is another earlier one from the 60s. This sounds like something from the Beatles or Hollies.

Does anyone here have an opinion about the Bee Gees’ 1978 Sgt. Pepper’s movie? I’ve never seen it, but I remember the promos for it when it was released. I knew nothing about the Beatles at the time, so it didn’t interest me.

Thanks for the link, Pascal! I just watched it. Man, what an excruciatingly painful experience, apart from the excellent covers by Earth, Wind & Fire and Aerosmith.
That’s not to say that the Bee Gees couldn’t competently cover the Beatles’ music; they certainly could. But the attempt at a storyline to connect all the songs together was just abysmal.
