In September of 1967 I was probably chasing butterflies and thought my broom horse toy was the best thing. That was me in the striped red shirt. We lived in Pullman Washington while my dad did his graduate studies at the University of Washington State. Me and my older brother and mom, and a couple of neighbours.

The older kids were likely listening to these chart toppers of the day.

    What were you up to?

At #1, Ode to Billie Joe – Bobbie Gentry

Let see I know I was looking more like the Beatles, Hair was long, playing guitar and loving all the music that was going on.

In September 1967 I was 22 months old, so I’d have to ask my mom what I was doing then. But I don’t want to make her relive those depressing memories, especially today on her birthday.

Lots of great, and very musically diverse, songs posted here! For many years I thought Ode to Billie Joe was by Janis Joplin, because it kind of reminded me of Me and Bobby McGee.

For me I was listening to the Monkees and Beatles. I was 9 years old so playing with my friends and playing baseball in the back yard. Going bowling with my dad. Great times for sure

In 1967 I was 16 years old and had just gotten my drivers license (making me the most popular guy in my group for at least a little while). There was a special on TV celebrating the completion of world wide satellite broadcasting. I remember watching The Beatles finishing “All you need is love” live! It was epic! all kinds of celebrities’ Like Mick Jagger and Tommy Smothers joined in on the refrain! And when Paul and John sang “She loves you yah yah yah” at the end I laughed out loud!

Joe, thanks for posting those wonderful 67 gems. Know those sweet songs well, but never knew who did them. They are so good. Whenever I see a trombone now, I envision Mona and Lisa with their new trombone 🙂

Here is another great one by the Supremes from 1967. Sad to hear of one of the Supremes passing a few days ago, Mary Wilson.
