Collins / Thunderclap Newman
Posted by Joseph Manzi on 10/03/2021 at 15:49Just listen to these two great songs with the word air in them. Actually I think the Twins could do both renditions of these songs.

Phil Collins – In the Air Tonight

Sounds like we’re starting to construct an air-themed MLT album! (Suggested title: “To Air Is Human”.) They’ve already got Walking in the Air in the can, and I imagine they could do wonders with this one as well:

I’m doing fine, Joe. I’ve got the week off of work, so I’m just catching up on some around-the-house stuff. And tomorrow I’m getting the first dose of the COVID vaccine. How are you?
-
I am doing well David. I still trying to get an appointment for my COVID shot. It been impossible to get an appointment. That’s great you are getting yours. Have you gone through your state or pharmacy? I tell you there seems to be no organization in New Jersey. It’s a shame. At least you will be half way there with your first shot. Good Luck..
-
I agree, Joe; it’s a mess. Here in North Carolina I was placed in “group 3”, which I qualified for by virtue of the fact that I’m a teacher, which is considered an essential worker. Tomorrow the county health department will be on campus to give the shot to all employees.
I hope you (and everyone else reading this) can get yours ASAP.
-
David are you home grown to North Carolina? I have some friends that live in Cary NC. A pretty state. I love driving through Virginia, Tennessee and the Carolina’s . All pretty states.
How long have the schools been open in NC. Here in Jersey there are still a lot of schools not open. Mainly Public Schools.
-
-
Joe, I was born and raised in Kentucky, but I’ve lived in North Carolina for 15 years now. I’ve been to Cary a few times; it’s a very attractive area.
The K-12 schools just re-opened here a week or two ago. Since August my college has been operating with the classrooms at half of capacity, with some students attending remotely by Zoom meetings. It’s been an awkward transition, but we’re finally getting the hang of it.
-
Dave so is the school you teach at. Is it a private or public school ? What grade level do you teach?
So Kentucky home of Abe and Ali. Always wanted to go to Kentucky and see the Derby. It’s still on my Bucket list.It will be nice when life will get back to some form of normality and sanity. Let hope soon….
-
It’s a public community college. Like most community colleges, it offers the introductory courses that most college students take in their first two years, so that when they finish here they can transfer to a four-year school and focus just on their major for two years. We also have certificate and diploma programs in areas that require training but not a bachelor’s degree, such as auto repair. law enforcement, and practical nursing.
I’m glad you know that Lincoln is from Kentucky. He’s our only president, and I’m amazed at how many people think he was born in Illinois.
I’ve never seen the Derby in person, but I’ve been to the adjacent Derby Museum, which includes a tour of the track. Another nice place to visit if you’re interested in horse racing is the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, where you can actually meet some past Derby winners who live on the grounds.

That’s good David. Really that’s strange that people don’t know where Abe Lincoln was born. Doesn’t surprise me. No offense to you. Not sure what they are teaching on American History these days. Listen there is this TV channel, I watch from time to time. It’s a rural channel dealing with farms, stocks and entertainment. Not sure if you like country or blue grass music. They have this show that is broadcast from Kentucky called Woodsongs.
I have found some interesting artists from that show.
Last question. What do you teach? -
I’m not familiar with that Woodsongs show, Joe, but I’ll check it out if I come across it. I’ve actually never been much of a country music fan. The melodies are often very catchy, but the vocal style ruins it for me. And I somehow grew up in the Bluegrass State ignorant of bluegrass music, but I’m slowly getting into it.
I primarily teach physics, but when I tell people that it tends to bring the conversation to a screeching halt, so let’s just say I teach science.
-
Well Physics, that’s above my head. But that is great. Yea David I was the same way with Country and Bluegrass. Then I moved to Texas and really got into it. I appreciate them both now. I pretty much like all kinds of music. Except Rap for me. Just not my style. But my first love will always be Rock & Roll. You have a great day. Fun talking with you.
-
Love ” In The Air” & ” All I Need is the Air”etc, good Air song choices here, but no Aerosmith…lol….
-
Great song Joe, Phil Collins In The Air Tonight was one of the best songs from that time. I remember it sounded so cool when they played it in an episode of Miami Vice in the 80s. I also really liked this one by Genesis.
-
Hi Jung,
In the air tonight. What I love about that song is when the drums come in. They just send a chill through me.
Genesis a great group and song. Collins always does his best.
Hope all is well with you.

Hey Joe, doing OK, work has been getting crazy and stressful, but the weekend and MLT music is my refuge.
Listening to In the Air Tonight and Davids’ great Hollies suggestion of The Air That I Breathe, this song for some reason rings in my head. Maybe a little similar or from the same time frame. Always liked this one too in the same vein.
-
Wow Jung, Haven’t heard this song forever. That for posting…
Hoped you watched What’s On The Table – The Girls a nice review of Crosby, Still and Nash.
Have a great weekend.

Jung, according to Wikipedia, Alan Parsons was the audio engineer for the Hollies’ recording of The Air That I Breathe. Small world!
Also, the song was written and initially recorded by Albert Hammond, appearing on his album It Never Rains in Southern California.
