    Hi Mona and Lisa

I recall in one of the videos back in 2017 you mentioned getting into fitness and starting on a Kale diet, and over the years we’ve seen videos and posts at the MLT Club of your running and getting fit efforts, Mud Run and Half Marathons etc you’ve participated in all leading up to the big full marathon through the mountains recently. In the latest videos it looks like you both have really toned up into athletic physiques you both look great like Iron Women! To accomplish this I am sure required a lot of hard work, blood and sweat, discipline, and know how. Incredible achievement!

Did you seek any professional coaching or training to prep for the full marathon and to get into the incredible shape you are both in, or was it all DIY and your own research? Any fitness resources you can share? Do you find the working out and running makes a difference in your music and creativity? Thanks.

    All the very best!

    Hi Jung!

Thanks! As with most things we do, our getting-in-shape these past few years was basically a DIY project, initially fuelled by blind enthusiasm.

We’ve never had a personal trainer or customised training program but after buying some weights, running shoes, etc. we have done a lot of research over the years and learnt a lot about training and nutrition. By now we have a basic understanding of these things and have stuck with regular exercise for at least 4 or 5 years.

For the marathon we followed one of the many free training programs on the internet (this one) and now we just run a few times a week for “fun” whenever we find the time.

We often do the split training weight lifting routines from Fitness Blender, some Yoga with Adriene and we also do weekly HIIT training with a fitness group called Metafit.

While we can recommend all of that, I think it’s just most important to do something, even if it’s just a walk around the block, every day. Just to build a habit of looking at daily movement as something that’s non-negotiable 🙂

I started off with little challenges like 30 days of yoga or learning to do a handstand etc. And if you’re the type of person that likes group activities, I think finding a fitness class that you enjoy or a running buddy can be huge.

All the good things they say about exercising – mental clarity, focus, happiness … we can absolutely vouch for that and I think it has made us more confident, balanced and productive. 🙂 I’m not sure if it made us more creative but it’s easier to channel creativity into actual projects.

I’m so glad we started this journey and I think it made everything else in our lives easier and more enjoyable!

    Hi Mona!

DIY and blind enthusiasm sound like just the right recipe! And thanks so much for those links.

It’s so awesome to see the Marathon training schedule you both followed! It looks like each week it just kept getting a little more intense! I’ve been exercising and working up a sweat using my exercise bike for the last year for about 30 mins a day (most weeks anyway! 🙂 ), but perhaps I can borrow a little inspiration and guidance from that regimen and try something similar on the bike but of course nothing as intense as what you did. At the final week 16 and the Race Day, I notice they have the following day marked as “Sleep Day”! LOL! I wonder how did you and Lisa spend the next day after the marathon, end up sleeping a lot? Sounds like another Ask the MLT Club question!

That weekly high intensity HIIT training looks mind blowing! Developed by a Royal Marine Commando, that is some real professional level boot camp kind of work out you do, I am beyond impressed by you both! When you guys do something, you really do it all out right!

That Fitness Blender site and Yoga look like awesome resources to get started. I’ll check out those exercise videos. Cute dog the trainer exercises with in the Yoga video.

After reading everything here about your fitness journey, I am feeling a little pumped to push myself to another level with my own exercises. Again, thanks so much for sharing all these, and thanks for the training advice. It’s so awesome to see this other side of you both! All I can say is wow I am blown away! 🙂

Have an awesome week, all the best! ????

    Jung
