    Hi Mona and Lisa

    Groovy greetings!

This topic is kind of close to my heart and am curious about your thoughts and experiences. If money is no object, what would be your dream motor-vehicle to own, or rent for a couple weeks during a vacation if you had the opportunity?

In the past or recently, any interesting or memorable road trips? Would love to hear any stand out road trip experiences you could share.

My dad was passionate behind the wheel and loved road trip adventures. I think it was because in Korea when he was a young man, post Korean war hardly anyone owned a car except the very rich and privileged, and even then it was being chauffeured around, so when my dad came to the USA for graduate studies, being able to learn to drive and buying an affordable used car, and experiencing the 60s/70s open country USA was an adventure he could not resist, when he was not studying or working. So growing up vacations always meant a family road trip. I remember it wasn’t the destination that was important, but the journey/adventure getting there. Discovering little small towns we’ve never been to before, checking out the little diners in the middle of nowhere, the beautiful views of rolling hills, mountains, lakes and oceans. That passion passed along to me and my brother.

My dream motor-vehicle would be a new Mustang Shelby GT 500 along the lines of the one Lisa drew, “Miami Rocks”. Alternatively, a camper van like the one that youtube photographer Thomas Heaton uses on his photography trips all over the UK countryside. I would want to be able to sleep and cook in it, and ideally it would be nice if it had a small portable toilet, and bonus if it had a shower too. I could imagine some nice road trips with it.

    Warmest wishes. 🙂

    Hi Jung,

I love how you talk about your dad and his love for the freedom of just taking to the road and exploring the country. Given his backstory, that must have felt incredible!

It’s beautiful that he passed that passion on to you and your brother.

We’ve never been much into fancy sports or classic cars … except for a short while in primary school, when trading “car cards” was a thing, haha. But I guess we’re quite stereotypical women in that we couldn’t tell you much about fast, fancy motorized vehicles 😉

But as you know, we love campervans! I’d love to own one or even convert a sprinter, or something funky like an ambulance car into a custom little home on wheels one day! With the development of better solar power systems and “van life” becoming more and more popular, being comfortable “on the road” seems to actually be possible nowadays 😛

Dad bought a nifty little van recently that he’s currently fixing up! It’s still in the garage but hopefully we’ll all get to use it next year! For road trips and music related projects … ????

I’ve actually seen some of the videos Thomas Heaton filmed while travelling the UK in his van. He got to some amazing photo locations with it, didn’t he? I know we’ve talked about his channel before but I also found out recently that Dad independently stumbled across his channel through another video about his 4×4 conversion with 8020 aluminium profiles. Funny 🙂

Like we’ve delved into previous forum posts with you, some of our favourite road trips and memories growing up were with our old, orange VW camper. You get to see and experience things which a stay in a nice hotel could never bring 🙂

Last week we posted some photos of a family trip to Pembrokeshire which entailed an amazing road trip too.

We were blasting music for hours, singing, soaking in the scenery, taking photos and simply enjoying the ride through the beautiful countryside.

I never really mind long trips to shows, or during a tour. We usually come up with silly games to play, or use it to talk or relax a bit.

We wish you many more memorable trips!

Thanks Tom! I like this Rascal’s rendition of Mustang Sally!

    Hi Lisa!

Love reading your reply, thanks so much. 🙂

It’s funny just after I submitted this question I saw your Pembrokeshire photo post and when I saw it’s location on the map I imagined a very wonderful road trip you all must have had to get there and back over the 3 days. That beautiful coastline and magical countryside! I think a UK roadtrip is something I would love to do one day in a campervan, the countryside is so different from North America, some places look like a magical fairytale land.

It’s so cool to hear Papa Rudi is working on fixing up a van so you can travel in it. Hope you can share some pictures of it when the van project is completed. If I recall in one of your videos, in your parents move from Austria to the UK they used a Sprinter Van or something similar that unfortunately broke down? I think getting yourself a camper van or converting an ambulance or sprinter van into one would be awesome, or getting another orange VW Van just like the one you rode in when you were little in the Two Of Us video.

Earlier this month I met up with my brother who was finally able to visit from the USA thankfully to the easing of the border restrictions, and we talked and reminisced about all those fond road trips with our dad in his old black and white 1956 Buick Road Master with huge rear fins. The greatest thing about a roadtrip adventure are the life time fond memories it leaves behind.

Yeah I’ve been following the Thomas Heaton youtube channel you referred to me in the photography post from a while back and been enjoying his photo shoot adventures and his camper van conversion projects. What a brilliant way to explore the outdoors capturing all the beauty through photography. It’s quite inspiring. Also like fellow Canadian Peter Mckinnon’s photography channel you mentioned. There is also a youtube travel vlogger “Eva Zu Beck” who did a dream truck (Land Rover Defender) conversion to a camper series that caught my attention that might be fun to check out. She goes on a little journey all over eastern Europe in it.

Wishing you both many wonderful outdoors and roadtrip adventures in the future.

    Warmest wishes. 🙂
