• I Wanna Kiss You

I always love the bright fun feel of this song with Mona and Lisa’s wonderful harmonies. Reminds me of the fun and upbeat Beatles and Beach Boys style.

I like the animated effects of Mona and Lisa singing, dancing, and running around in the video. A real feel good, lift the spirits song and video. The behind the scenes video is so much fun to watch too. Interesting use of the green screen to create animation background in the video production, a technique carried over into the “Questionable” video.

What do you think of the song and video? Any favourite songs with similar bright fun upbeat feel that come to mind?

Jung, this is one of my favorites from MLT’s first album. The first time I heard it was when I realized that they had an amazing talent for channeling the Beatles without overtly copying them. And the video is so creative and just pure fantasy fun!

This is the Beatles song that comes to mind that has the most similar structure, but I Wanna Kiss You improves quite a bit on the energy level:

Or if you want to focus more on the message and the spirit, maybe this one:

Hi David, yeah nicely said. Mona and Lisa take the passion and joy they feel from the Beatles and express it in their own music in their own unique spirit. Love these early Beatles gems, they grab you. Magic!

Hi Jung and David (and all others of course), a beautiful song by Mona and Lisa. And since we are talking about comparisons with Beatles songs, I feel reminded of „I’m Happy Just To Dance With You“ (whatever the reason…)

Hi Jurgen, a nice one. A lesser known Beatles song, but certainly makes you feel good indeed.

This is one of my favs. The original was good enough, but this “version” is just the best.

Roger, this is hilarious. All that happiness rubs off, and couldn’t stop laughing when they try to make the muppets cry, but the sadness didn’t last long.

Jung, this is one of my favorites…especially at the end of the Behind the Scenes.

Lisa: There’s nothing I can’t do, there’s nothing I’m not good at, there’s nothing I’m not the pro.

As far as “bright fun upbeat feel”, I would submit this one for consideration:

So Jung, and interested others: Quite awhile ago, I came to the conclusion that MLT (along with with the resident techno Papa Rudi), were not only excellent creators of original material, but that they are also capable of parody and satire in a most subtle way. So, too were the Beatles in their own way. Back In The U.S.S.R ,and Harrison’s psychedelic It’s All Too Much, for example.

But keeping to the topic, first of all, the title is much too close to I Want To Hold Your Hand to be just a coincidence. Then, the MonaLisa Twins, take us straight back to the middle nineteen sixties with a Pop Art tour de force that particularly resonates with the style and work of Roy Lichtenstein. Wham! Bang! Crash! etc. Too much fun! Other Pop artists of the day included the legendary Andy Warhol, and Jasper Johns.

But here’s another little angle and coincidence that Mona and Lisa may not know. An early proponent of Pop Art was Eduardo Paolozzi, born in Edinburgh of Italian parents, died 2005, and who taught for two years at the University Of Fine Art in Hamburg. In 1961 he taught Stu Sutcliffe for a short time. Sutcliffe, as many will know, was a close friend of John Lennon, and played bass with the Beatles in Hamburg. He then went on to become closely associated with photographer Astrid Kircherr before tragically dying of a brain hemorrhage. After that, Paul McCartney played bass in the band.

Just to finish with my original premise: Let me suggest that the girl group in Questionable is of one part MLT, one part Amy Winehouse, and one part The Ronettes. What further surprises are in store do you suppose, as we await further releases from this small but mighty cottage industry?

Len…Wham! Bang! Crash! Reminds me of another classic: Batman starring Adam West and Burt Ward.

As far as I am concerned, Adam West is the only Batman!

Hi Len, thanks for sharing your insights and interesting facts. I think Mona and Lisa share a lot of similarities with the Fab 4 from their personalities, approach to their art, to the way they carry themselves in interviews, so natural, fun. They have a charisma that enchants their fans. That set the Beatles apart from their contemporaries and MLT are like that too. That’s very special.

Yeah, I can hardly wait to see what their next new song is that they have been doing the final touches on. The anticipation and excitement builds. We are so lucky here at the MLT Club to be the first to experience their new music, fresh out of their cottage industry studio! ????????????✂????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I love the MLT cover of “Good Day Sunshine” (couldn’t pull up out of the duo sessions). I think it is equivalent to the Beatles.

Awesome choice Diana. I recall Lisa said this was one of her most favourite Beatles songs in one of the Q and As.

I unapologetically love Pharrell Williams “Happy”. I always play this with my nieces and nephews and we sing and dance. Nothing more fun than doing something like that, especially when you are a jail nurse.

“Love Shine a Light” was their only other real hit, and actually their biggest in the UK, but not until 12 years later :
