Got a good start to St Patrick’s Day showering with a bar of Irish Spring soap first thing this morning, and filled my fountain pen with Irish Green Ink. Will do some green tea later.

Hi Tom, yeah me too, I dig celtic music.

Here is another one appropriate for today, by the Irish Corrs.

Hi you funny guys. What is St. Patrick’s day? (a question from someone who lives behind the moon) 🙂

      Jung, thanks for asking.

The URLs are doubled. Cut the redundancy in the middle.

      It’s my eyesight.

These are worth it. Thanks again

Thanks Tom. That article on St Patricks was a nice read, learned some new things. Looks like outside of Ireland, St Patricks Day is celebrated mostly in the UK, USA, Canada, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand, where a lot of Irish people emigrated to through history. In Canada it is even a holiday in the provinces of Labrador and Newfoundland. The shamrock (3 leaf clover) was chosen by St Patrick to be worn on this day because the 3 leaves represent the holy trinity. “Whiskey Never Lies” is a nice song, and again what an interesting title for a song.

This traditional Irish song has been recorded by dozens of artists, but I’ll give the honor here to my favorite Aussie group:

David, very nice, thanks. The Seekers always sound great, and I like the interesting song titles like this one of these Irish Songs.

Got to love the Seekers! Here’s my favorite from them, what a voice Judith has! Oh and on St. Patrick day I change my name to Paddy O’ Furniture. 😉

You said it, Paddy! And in every interview I’ve seen, Judith exhibits levels of unaffected humility and genuine niceness equalled in my experience only by MLT, which adds even more to her appeal.

Thanks for your answer Tom. Since the tradition is little known in our country, I have now googled myself. In Munich, a St. Patrick Day parade has been taking place since 1996, including the illumination of the Hofbräuhaus (probably boosts sales…).

Switzerland officially participated in “Greening” for the first time in 2014. As the country’s only contribution, the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen were illuminated green during four evenings.

Hi Jurgen, I am surprised St Patrick’s Day isn’t known in Germany, as I thought it would be well known all over Europe. I remember in elementary school in Canada, we were all reminded to “wear green tomorrow because it is St Patrick’s Day”, and there would be songs, art, and stories about leprechauns and 4 leaf clovers, and all the myths from Ireland we learned about. I am glad you are enjoying listening to some Irish Folk music today.

Hi Jung. As you wrote correctly: the tradition of St. Patrick Day’s was taken to various countries by the Irish emigrants. Germany and some other European countries are not part of it.

In our country, however, Irish pubs were very popular for a while (or still are). As a twenty year old I regularly went to pubs with friends and listened to live Irish music. It was always a great atmosphere and live music in a small, personal setting is something fantastic. One band in particular here in our region appealed to me. It consisted of German musicians and the female singer had a voice like an angel. They came from a neighboring town (Duisburg) and called themselves Sheevón. They had good contacts with Irish bands and also performed regularly in Ireland. Many of the songs they performed they had written themselves. That’s why I have a special relationship with Irish folk music.

PS: I googled Sheevón and the band is still around. Awesome. I have not heard this music for about 30 years now (unfortunately there are only amateur videos with a not very good quality).

Yeah Tom. That’s pretty cool. For me this kind of dancing is a little bit like flying. I like it very much. Unfortunately I’ve never seen Lord of the dance or Riverdance live, but I’m sure I will catch up at some point.
