Mona and Lisa sure hit the ground running when they released their first album, “Live In Concert 2007”

I had a friend in highschool who was really into Santana. Whenever I visited him at his place, it was always a Santana album he would put on. He explained all the ins and outs of jazz. I remember the instrumentals really stood out and I could see the appeal. It wasn’t until I started listening to MLTs Live In Concert 2007 album and I came across MLTs “Samba Pa Ti” I finally could understand the magic my highschool friend saw in Santana. It took the awesome expressive guitar work by a young Lisa for me to really feel what Carlos Santana was trying to express, and wow! Those warm round guitar tones just take me over when I hear this.

MLT have had this effect on me on many songs I ‘ve heard for years, but it never quite touched me like when I heard MLTs version. San Francisco, God Only Knows etc…

Just like when I first heard Glenn Gould’s Bach interpretation, and I swore I would never listen to any other pianist when it came to Bach, with many rock and pop songs, I feel the same way, I will never revert back to the original when I now have the ultimate MLT version!

What are some of your favorite tracks from the album?

I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated the drums, like when I first discovered Mona and her passionate drumming and singing on “Twist and Shout”. In rock songs, for me the drums always took a back seat to the guitars, but Mona changed all that. Those awesome Mona rocker vocals, love it.

Have a listen to the drumming in “Songbird”, it is like fireworks.

I always enjoyed “Proud Mary”, and remember singing it in music class in grade 5. Years later, hearing MLTs version it put the song in a whole new light for me. Love the harmonizing Mona and Lisa do. This song never stood out and sounded so good as when I first heard the MLT version here. Lisa on the guitar and Mona on drums, just magic. Nice keyboard and bass work by Michaela and Rudolf respectively. The musicianship throughout is all top notch!

I really like the rap version songs on the album, Der Kommissar, Back to Life, Stand By Me, and Aufstehn. I love Aufstehn, possibly my favourite on the album. Mona and Lisa’s singing is just so fun and lively, makes me want to get up and dance! Would love to see the video of these one day. In this weeks video of “Guitar Strings giveaway”, at the end we get to see a short clip of “Stand By Me” which looks wonderful.

Their first and only original on the album, “Alone” is so tender and sweet! I wonder if a Duo Session of that might be an idea. It’s a real gem.

My favorites are “Love Is All Around Me” and “Ain’t No Sunshine” (despite it’s double negative chorus – ain’t ‘no’ sunshine means there ‘is’ sunshine when she is gone, and that ain’t right, or is it a double entendres? ???? There is so much sunshine when she’s gone, I wish she’d stay away forever? ????) Both songs really show off the combined family talent.

A couple of these tunes are quite challenging. One would expect to compare a past performance to now and remark on the band’s growth. This selection of songs really displays their talent was evident from the get go. The Santana song is amazing and Lisa Clapper really shines on “Wonderful Tonight”.

I think this concert also begs the chicken/egg question. Luckiest parents in the world, or luckiest kids in the world?

Hi JP, great points. Love Is All Around Me is just delightful with Mona and Lisa’s harmonies, and Ain’t No Sunshine really spot lights the incredible musicianship talents of the entire Fab 4 here; Lisa’s lead vocals, Mona’s drumming (what an incredible solo drum moment Mona gives!), Michaela’s saxophone, and Rudolf’s keyboard. In the car I could put “Samba Pa Ti” on repeat and just bliss out to Lisa’s amazing guitar work. In the Guitar Strings Giveaway video, I thought I heard Lisa mention a “guitar solo” in one of the new songs! That sounds intriguing.

That is a good question, luckiest parents in the world or luckiest kids in the world? Well it’s both of course.

I love all the songs on this CD, and…lol…now …if I happen to hear ” Back To Life ” on radio….it’s MLT’s version in my head I hear and sing along to instead of radio version, and though I’m not a Rap Music fan, MLT’s takes on this CD is the only RAP exceptions, I’ll forever will embrace,

I do like ” Alone ” , too, but I know MLT was never reallykeen on it, not sure why, so who knows if they’re going to do a remake of it, perhaps they will reconsider and do an updated version, now being older, more musically confident, sophisticated… we shall see …

Yes, the whole CD is impressive from Get Go ????????
