• Beloved Geese

Inspired by MLTs Neve videos, I came across some touching story of geese.

I’ve always been fond of Canada Geese, they are revered here in Canada, especially in Vancouver where we have a lot of them, and it’s not uncommon to see a group of geese stop traffic as a family cross the street. Seeing Neve, I will always see geese in a new light as such intelligent, feeling, emotional, and loving animals.

Like Neve and Frankie, here are some more beloved geese.

I posted this one previously here on another post, but goes to show geese have emotions. It caught the attention of the news in Toronto.

    Hi Jung,

the canada geese ( „Branta canadensis“ as the ornithologist likes to say ????) are actually not all that in need of help. At the moment they feel very comfortable in our big cities such as Cologne and Düsseldorf (not always to the delight of everyone).

“Tour de Goose 2017” in Düsseldorf:

Every morning and every evening, an amazing spectacle is repeated at the southern end of Königsallee in Düsseldorf: a flock of geese wanders across a huge, busy intersection for breakfast. And Düsseldorf holds its breath for a moment.

Hi Jurgen, they most certainly get around, and the look adorably proud and confident. Thanks for posting it. They can fly so far, I always wonder where they’ve been, or where they will be off to. It looks like Canada Geese aren’t native to Europe, and were introduced in the UK as early as the 1600s. Maybe it’s Canada’s biggest and longest spanning export, even before it was a country. ????

      So Jung,

now it’s time we got serious about the subject:????

      Canada Goose

The Canada goose is a species of bird in the duck family and is considered the most common goose in the world. Its original range is North America. There it is a characteristic bird of the lowlands and breeds on inland lakes of the prairies and farmlands. Its characteristic V-shaped migration to wintering grounds and its return to breeding grounds in spring are symbols of the changing seasons in North America. In Europe, the Canada goose has been deliberately introduced to some extent. A large part of the populations existing today, especially in Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia and the Netherlands, are due to captive escapees. Since the 1970s, it has also been a breeding bird in Germany. The Canada goose grows slightly larger than the greylag goose, making it the largest goose species seen in the wild in Europe. (Wikipedia)

Many people think corvids are the smartest bird species. Not true, here’s the proof: Gerry the Goose

Hi Tom, yeah that second video is kind of sad at the end. I guess the heart string pulling and more emotional stories and songs have a more moving and lasting impact on me than the brighter ones so I gravitate towards them, but I should keep a balance there.

Jurgen, that goose taking a flight video is too funny! They are clever birds, so that video is fitting. Thanks for the laugh.

Juergen, your 3 Golden Retrievers are adorable, and the picture of the one on this post is one handsome dog. The Guess Who is great, and I think is the greatest rock band this country produced just based on the timeless impact of their music. Love American Woman. BTO led by Randy Bachman is also great, love Taking Care of Business. Another lesser known band that was popular in the 70s in Canada only is Trooper, and I think some of their songs are on par with any of the hits by The Guess Who and BTO. They were short lived I think for a few years in the mid 70s.

Hi Juergen, yeah Gordon Lightfoot is awesome. What a beautiful song, Sundown. Edmond Fitzgerald is another one I really like. The thing is a lot of Canadian artists like Joni Mitchell, Neil Young I never knew for the longest time were Canadian.

I saw this artist many years ago at a little coffee shop across my office where I worked. He just casually strolled in to see the owner of the coffee shop.
