Have you ever or almost forgotten lyrics onstage?!
Posted by Jacki Hopper on 02/01/2019 at 11:41In all the years performing live .. Has it ever happened where you forgot the lyrics in midsong and/or missed/forgot song from your set list while performing live onstage or on radio or recording studio ?!… I can imagine you’d be good at adlibbing real quickly ???????? Just got me curious !?

The better question would be if there has even been a performance where we didn’t forget the lyrics at some point 😉 It happens all the time but we tend to just repeat a different verse or line or make up some new lyrics to try and hide the fact we’ve got the memory of a goldfish.
Weirdly enough we’re both having less trouble with lengthy, wordy lyrics as they normally have a good storyline that you can follow and remember easily. It’s the repetitive ones where maybe only a few words or lines keep changing that always get us. Less obvious if you’re singing on your own but as we often sing harmonies … well, it’s quite obvious if two people try to make up new lyrics on the fly 🙂

“Memory of a goldfish!” You crack me up, young Lisa! And yes, I know you have a lot of experience with goldfish. (see “Nothing Is In Vain.”)
Actually, that would be pretty good! I’m amazed at what can be found on the Internet:
“Their brain power is at best shallow. Or so we thought. But scientists believe fish may have hidden depths. The creatures said to have a mere three-second memory span can actually recall information for up to five months. Scientists found that fish trained to respond to certain sounds in captivity still reacted months later when they heard them in the wild.”

2013-09-29 : Radio Wien – Clubkonzert – MonaLisa Twins
( I don’t know birds that well)Â I think Lisa is singing :
“Now I sit, watching the sun”
instead of “watching the moon” 🙂
Radio interview – Live on Radio Wien/Vienna! – LISTEN: Â ” 22:53 ”
(By the way : Mona is singing the good lyrics …)

Thankyou Lisa :)….much appreciated and enjoyed your reply to my question , I have a bad short term memory but long term, fares better but yet , well I have more a better photographic memory 😉
Interesting comment there OmahaMike, but you beat me to replying back to Lisa firstly…:P Were you that anxious to reply before I had a chance to 😛 J/K of course ?!

Oops, sorry Ms. Jacki! You know I cherish your friendship and would never intentionally step on your tippy toes! 😉 As it happened, I took off work this week, and happened to be sitting at my PC. You’ll see I made comments in a couple other threads too.
But, I am thinking the new rules are that no one can reply to a fan question before Lisa or Mona does. After that, I thought it is open to everyone? I think I also read somewhere that they also won’t get involved in a “conversation” due to lack of time and the volume of mail here.
I have the same modus operandi that you do. In my early days with MLT in the spring/summer/autumn of 2016, whenever I e-mailed them and they replied, I would sent another response back to them to show my appreciation. Of course, at that point I never expected it to keep going as if it was like a tennis match. If fact, at times I asked them not to feel obligated to reply to my first communique, as I knew how very busy they were. I truly have loved and cherished my “fan face time” with them, as we all do.
Henceforth, I shall remember to give you first option to answer back. Tomorrow evening shall be my Q #3 to Lisa, and on 1/18/19 my Q #4 to Mona.  I look forward to your participation! What is your new self-imposed nickname again? I forgot to write it down.
By the way, that was a great question you asked them! I appreciate that you asked it in the form of a question. After all, this is a Q&A forum, right? Have a lovely and groovy Canadian week, Jacki! 🙂

I have to admit that I’ve forgotten lyrics too from time to time. Worse, I forgot to play a guitar part on stage once, and it left an extremely uncomfortable silence right in the middle of a song! LOL
