  Deep Purple (the song)

  As I was listening to the bridge of “Close To You”, my mind suddenly leapt to the Nino Tempo / April Stevens recording of “Deep Purple”, which features the most exotically intriguing two-part harmony I’ve ever experienced.  Wouldn’t it be a wonderful treat to hear an MLT version of this song?  As long as we’re dreaming, John Sebastian could supply the harmonica fills.

  Mona and Lisa certainly have the appropriate biological pedigree for this job:  Tempo and Stevens are siblings, as of course are Donny and Marie, who also scored a hit with a similar arrangement.
