For those who like the Beatles (who doesn’t?)
Like many of my fellow members, Mona and Lisa first got my attention with their covers of the Beatles on the first Beatles and More CD which was followed up by two more which are just as good. I made sure to own all 3.
Anyway, the point of this post is to let people know about a radio show which may interest fans of the Beatles. If you are not from the New York area, you can hear it on the “I Heart Radio” app (it is free). Every Sunday morning at 8:00 am Eastern time the DJ Ken Dashow hosts a show called “Breakfast with the Beatles” on the New York station WAXQ, otherwise known as Q104.3. Ken also has a Beatles Blog on I Heart Radio as well.
This has become my Sunday morning ritual before church and I listen to it religiously (sorry couldn’t help it, it does air Sunday morning after all). Other than playing their music, he talks about the Beatles, also has well known musical guests who either have played with or know the Beatles personally. Lots of interesting facts.
Another thing he will do is mention musicians who have covered their songs, some well known like Joe Cocker to others who have yet to become well known. Well when he started that this morning after playing “I Saw Her Standing There” guess who emailed him to let him know about the Mona Lisa Twins? I have yet to hear back, he usually does reply either on the same day or within a day or two. If he does rely I will let you guys know. Another thing that made me think of the twins this morning was when he played a recording of the early days of the Beatles live at the Cavern Club. Sound familiar?
He also takes requests either for special occasions, for listeners who have a special memory of a particular song, or possilby for people who want to remember friends or loved ones in a different way. I personally have experienced this a few years ago (I will remain silent on the timeframe) when I requested “When I’m 64” for my brother’s 64th birthday. It was too late to get it on the same week but he did play it the week after along with paraphrasing my comments.
Again, however, if you do live in or near NYC you may want to check it out.  If not you can listen using I Heart Radio.Bob
