Duo Session Filming Technique

We shoot with one fixed camera while Dad moves around with a second one, capturing the close-up shots. While they look pretty close they are shot from quite a distance to avoid appearing in the field of view of the main camera.

We normally run through the songs a few times and then choose our favourite take but we’re sometimes able to use close-up shots from different takes, too.

That’s for the Duo Session, for our “proper” music videos we normally just use one camera (Our Sony A7 iii) and do lots of different takes.

Lisa, I have always admired how your father has managed to capture your’s and Mona’s beauty so well in his photography, from when you were just those little, happy, smiling babies (as seen in the “Two of Us” video), through your infancy and teenage years and as you emerged into the beautiful young women you are today, taking on the world. I believe your grandfather was responsible for the excellent photography of your 2007 concert and your father seems to have inherited many of his skills.

While your sublime singing and own accompaniment is obviously the highlight (and I guess Rudi should take a bow here too for the audio quality), good quality videos are the icing on the cake. It is always a pleasure to be able to watch these videos as it feels like we are actually in the room with you, just like at our own personal concert. Thank you so much for sharing these videos with the club.

Good question Dave.  I often thought about this watching the Duo Sessions, and Lisa, your answer confirmed my hunch about a main camera rolling continuously, and Rudolf in the periphery taking the different close up angles, so to be combined into one smooth video flow.  Your dad certainly has the eye to take those perfect panning shots as you both sing and play.  Love seeing your guitar work, facial expressions especially, and all the physical dynamics that happen as you make your beautiful music!  Awesome production indeed.
