I’ve always assumed, with no real basis, that the reason they threw that in there was to contrast the profound type of love they were singing about in 1967 with the simple type from 1963.

I never really paid no mind as to who sang, thought it was John, or Paul, never thought of it as being someone outside the Beatles…mind you I was only a kid in the 70s, it wasn’t exactly on my radar to listen closely and analyze as to who it could, perhaps my second oldest bro knew, or not…lol…I just always sing along whenever I heard the song and always liked how tha Beatles oldie from their earlier days, was incorporated in there…lol

If my memory serves me (always a tricky assumption) it was Paul who was singing on the broadcast. John might have joined in. At least that’s how I remember it. Of course the first thing to go when you get old is……
