Admittedly Motown is solidly American but I discovered that the label sent several artists on a tour to the U.K. in 1965, and it still enjoys a level of popularity there.  While a significant number of artists addressed the state of society and politics here in the States during the 60’s, there are many songs with universal appeal.  Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour” is one of my favorites, and a song covered by several artists, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, that I think is best performed by Gladys Knight & The Pips on their 1967 album “Everybody Needs Love”. I was wondering: has Motown ever appeared on your radar during your exploration of the 60’s?

    Hi Dale,
I hope you don’t mind me referring you to this forum post where we were asked about potentially covering a Motown track: https://test2.monalisa-twins.com/forums/topic/motown/#post-33393

Motown has definitely been on our radar during our musical explorations from early on. Maybe not as much as other genres from the 60’s but the music has always been influential to us. One of the first concerts we’ve ever been to was James Brown (though he’s technically not Motown). It left us speechless and I couldn’t take my eyes off of the rhythm guitarist’s fingers. I’ve never seen chubbier fingers move around the fretboard quicker 🙂

And since you mentioned Gladys Knight, we saw her too, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles of all places. We caught her show during our trip to California in 2007, and it was wonderful. Even her backup singers were phenomenal.

There is a lot to explore in the world of Motown and I’m sure we’ve only scratched the surface so far ♥

Wow Lisa, it looks like you’ve had some live exposure to some of the best Motown artists.  If you decide to give a Motown style a go one day, I’m sure you would do it “Supreme” Motown justice!

Well, now, I’m hoping  that perhaps, Motown  will be coming on down to a studio MLT Duo Session in future…. even just one song, MLT can’t  go wrong, they’ll make it fab …

You could “kill two birds with one stone” with Please Mr. Postman by the Marveletes 1961, covered by the Beatles, 1963. I can hear you two shred it right now!
