Elan Valley – Photos

A few weeks ago, on the last few warm days of the year we took a short “weekend trip away” to a place called the Elan Valley. Something we wanted to do ever since we came to the UK.

It actually doubled up as a location/scouting trip, potentially for some music videos in the future (nothing concrete yet!). We always like to keep our eyes open for stunning backdrops while using the time to explore and unwind at the same time 🙂 And the scenery there was breathtaking! We thought you might enjoy it, too.

The Elan river valley consists of a series of reservoirs whose dam scheme was developed in the 19th century following rapid growth of the population of Birmingham in England due to the Industrial Revolution. Surprisingly, each reservoir and dam has its own kind of landscape and aesthetics that one can explore by car, by bike or by foot. We were so lucky with the weather … 22C (72F) and lots of mild sunshine at the end of September. With another potential lockdown looming ahead it was a no-brainer and a spontaneous decision to drop everything and spend a few days in the mountains.

Have a great day,
Mona & Lisa

  8. I just noticed Mona’s shadow hand is holding Lisa up while Lisa sits in the back of the car. Anybody else miss this? I guess my eye glasses do make a difference. (I think that is Mona’s shadow?)

I’m happy you had the opportunity to get a wknd away before another round of ibsanity hits. I can see hopefully, some future video being filmed in and about in Elan Valley. You all look rejuvenated, at peace, ….The photo of the crosses, that one got to me, also being November now, it struck a chord with me. Thankyou for sharing this impromptu wknd getaway, it worked out well for you all ????

  16. Thanks for taking us on your trip to share the wonderful landscapes and architecture! Perfect example of family getting to enjoy the outdoors and still be safe in the age of Covid. You all look marvelous and especially nice to see Mummager and Papa Rudi.

  17. Wonderful shots, loved the old dams.

  18. Spontaneity does have it’s rewards. A few days of fresh air to recharge is always a good idea, especially when you can find a beautiful spot like this. Orange follows you everywhere?

These photos are breathtaking. I love the picture of Rudi sitting on the edge with his super selfy stick, anything for a good shot. I was expecting to see him hanging precariously over the edge with the girls holding him back by his shirt. Having said that, he would probably have a nice harness to suspend himself, thinking Mission Impossible. I guess that’s what the drones are for – loss prevention.

Thanks for sharing these. It’s nice to see you all goofing around and just hanging out. You are such a beautiful family.

After a couple of pics of Rudi,
my wife looked at me and asked,”Sleeves?”

    JP.

  19. Beautiful shots, thanks.

  20. Which one of you drove up in that orange sports car? Wow, the Elan River Valley is such a beautiful and serene place from the forest to the smooth rolling hills, a kind of place one can easily escape to these days and not want to leave! Beautiful, serene perfection. The pictures of you all are so heart warming especially that one of the two of you with arms on each others shoulders.

I’ve seen my share of hydro electric dams in Washington State, even having lived by one when I was little given my dad was a hydro electric engineer, but that Craig Goch reservoir dam looks like a graceful work of engineering art! My dad would certainly marvel at its beauty.

Thanks, enjoyed that. I think this will be perfect to put on slideshow mode and veg out later while listening to your Jukebox. 🙂

    1. It should really be a Lotus Elan but I think it is a Lotus Elise (orange Lotus Elisa?) – yes lovely pics in this collection!
