Thanks for your reply Jung. I know what you mean about walking in the “misty rainy woods.” I loved the tranquility of walking in the woods in the early morning after a rain. Those musty smells , the fresh air. You hear every twig breaking, every bird song so loudly. All your senses are heightened.

David, you expressed it perfectly for me, and it’s raining today where I am.  🙂

David, I didn’t notice John’s reverse lip sync attempt at the end until you pointed it out.  It’s also interesting with the slow melodic beat of the song, and the way they all move and sing, there is almost a slow motion effect/feel it gives like being in a trance.  At least that’s the impression I get watching the video.

John Lennon’s song writing brilliance really shine in Norwegian Wood.  George Harrison describes it best as to why it is one of his favorite Beatles song here.  When a composer can make the listener get into his head and feel the passion, that is magic.

Trudging through the internet’s varied archives and making a few jumps we can bring you a list of George Harrison’s favourite Beatles songs. First up is a track from that album and a song he discussed in a rare interview with John Lennon back in 1974, the brilliant ‘Norwegian Wood’ because he “felt where it was coming from.” Harrison included it among his list of tracks “he really enjoyed”,

I feel the same way with MLT’s “Close To You”.  It is so moving and powerful.  Can feel much longing in the lyrics and singing.  You can feel where this song is coming from, MLT songwriting brilliance!

    Hi Jung,

The great thing on Paper Writer John & George sing the French nursery –  Frere Jacques using two syllable on each word.   Which made it easier to do the harmony. In all honesty it’s one of their songs along Nowhere Man to do live back then. Have a listen.

Joseph, listening to Paperback writer, I’m impressed by the complexity in the arrangement of the song with the layering of different vocals that all come together sounding incredible.  The central guitar riff is also outstanding.  Would make for an awesome MLT cover.  They started doing some great innovative things from 1965 in the studio experimenting and introducing all kinds of new techniques and new sounds in albums like Help, Rubber Soul, Revolver on to Sargent Peppers and beyond…..  “A Day In the Life”, wow!

If you have an hour to spare, have a look at this Beatles video analysis of their music. Really gave me a greater appreciation of their music and understanding of why their music is so monumental and changed modern music forever.

And it’s really heartwarming to know this tradition of great music and song writing and versatility the Beatles started is being carried on today by our beloved MLT for the 21st century!
