Hey Joe, great videos!  I enjoyed them all, thanks for posting them.  I especially like Lulu’s “To Sir With Love”, such a beautiful song of friendship, respect, and love.  When the movie To Sir With Love came out in the 60s, my parents bought the soundtrack album, and the whole family listened to this album a lot for years.  My older sister would sing along To Sir With Love when it came on.  I still have that vinyl and listen to it occasionally.

Mike, what wonderful comparison videos of two groups that have the magic of harmonies mastered.  John and Paul, Mona and Lisa.  A beautiful song expressed so beautifully by both.  Their harmonies are perfection.

On the Beatles video about half way through George almost ruined that recording session when he nearly knocked over the that big amplifier.

If I Fell is one of my favorite songs by the Beatles and MLT.  Both do the song so well.  George knocking over the amp?????  You mean George was human??  Mike.

Seeing the Hard Day’s Night film was my first ever Beatles experience, and that performance of If I Fell was what launched my personal journey into Beatlemania.  It’s still my favorite Beatles song.

That amp-knocking moment is interesting.  It’s clear from the sudden change in the audio quality that they were lip-syncing to a recording of the song, and yet you hear the amp being knocked over, so they must have decided to dub that sound in later.

Mike, that’s exactly why I enjoyed that video so much, portrays the human side of the Beatles from John jokingly starting off singing following Ringo around like telling him to hurry up.  Ringo does the drumming with finesse and accuracy, impressive.  Then George comes on, gives a smile as he realizes he can’t lean on the amp.

David, I’ll have to see the video again, I didn’t notice it was lip synced.

Watched the video again, and It was hard for me to tell looking at the video if it was being lip synced or not.  If it was, they did a pretty good job of it.

For me the giveaway is the sudden disappearance of the background noise when John stops talking and starts singing.  Secondarily, the tone of his voice changes abruptly, and he appears to be making a face at Ringo while singing “understand”, with his lower jaw extended, that would make it difficult for him to articulate that word properly.

I see now, I can tell the singing track and the talking track are different.  You have a sharp eye/ear for these things David.  The lip movement and the singing are remarkably in sync, compared to many other groups that supposedly are performing live but you can see the lips are way out of sync with the song.  Also when the music ends, it is right in sync with the motion of their instruments, they both stop right in sync.  Top notch choreography there.  It dawned on me after seeing the video a few times this was a scene from the movie, so it makes sense they would use a studio sound track for the music separate from the talking in the scene.  Plus there is a lot of activity going on with people moving equipment and walking by which would make some noise that is not picked up at all.

Well, you’re talking to a Monkees fan who saw that awkward transition once or twice in every episode of their TV show.  But agreed that they did a remarkable job on their end of the process.  The tiny differences were beyond their control.

Mamas and Papas were notorious for this on their tv appearances and Michelle Phillips mentioned about it in an interview one time…?
