David, some great ones from Peter Paul and Mary. Started liking them since you mentioned “Puff The Magic Dragon” a while back. That childrens song “Tion” sure is relevant today. I think all the wild fires around the world lately and the loss of the Permafrost is accelerating climate change at a rate scientists did not forsee.
Jurgen, that one by Midnight Oil is a great blast from the past. I saw them in concert in the early 90s that I forgot all about. Great song, and the Scorpions “Winds of Change” videos are so full of iconic images from 1989 and the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain. The world was so hopeful for change then and although we had it for a while, it seems like the world has slid back again as the tendency towards autocracy and corruption prevail in many places today.
We certainly need artists like MLT to mobilize people for a positive change in the world through the power of music and art like the great music legends from the past like John Lennon.

Hi Jung. I fully agree with you. Sadly, the world is turning back instead of forward. And that faster and faster.

It wasn’t until I really started to listen to the lyrics I noticed this is not about a woman at all. One of my all time fave rocks songs. And those howling guitars sound soooo gooooood!

Jung, I never really listened to the lyrics of American Woman beyond the first line, until now. Surprise! I’m reminded of how the Reagan administration similarly embraced Springsteen’s Born in the USA.

The Christmas miracle of 1914. British and German Soldiers stopped shooting at each other and instead climbed out of the trenches. They sang Christmas carols together, exchanged small gifts and showed themselves the photos of the ones they loved. This peace lasted 3 days. After that, they were forced to kill themselves again.

David, that Paul McCartney video is a real gem. Haven’t seen that one before.
Here is another gem I use to sing in elementary school music class. It was always so moving and breathtaking to sing. This one really cuts straight to the heart of it like John Lennon’s Imagine. Seems greed, power, and religion has been the source of hate and bloodshed since the beginning of humanity.

Ah, that’s a great one, Jung! We learned that song in grade school music class too. I was rather proud of myself for being able to grasp the irony of the ending at age nine.

This one is early ’80s but I think it’s one of the strongest antiwar songs ever. I’ve posted the German (original) version because it’s a much stronger statement than the English version.

Jim, I agree Nena’s 99 Luftballons was one of the best videos from the early 80s and very powerful with it’s anit-war message impact I remember. A child’s red balloon is let go as bombs fall, makes you wonder what happened to the child. Lost dreams.
Juergen another great one from those times in the 80s at the height of the Cold War about to end.

Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Goin On’ is the perfect anthem for Vietnam.

Hi Diana! Niiice videos, I especially liked Mad World. Song is beautiful and the video really creative. Thanks for sharing them. Hope you’re doing well.

Bob Marley was certainly very active against corruption, poverty, and oppression. This was the last song Bob Marley performed.
“Better to die fighting for freedom, than be a prisoner all the days of your life” – Bob Marley
