I just listened to MLT’s version of Baby Mine on another part of the site (and have already forgotten where it is!).  This is the song my mother and I danced to at my wedding, so it has great significance to me, especially since she has now passed on.  The version we played was by Allison Krause (can I mention her name here?) and is quite lovely and played at about half the speed as the Twins, but I like the Twins’ version nonetheless.  For those who don’t know this, the song was originally part of the soundtrack of the Disney cartoon movie Dumbo (which was one of the first movies I ever saw).

    Hey Daniel,

Yeah, they really do speed it up. I loved Allison’s version of this but after listening to the Twins version about 6 times, it seems slow and dull.

But Allison’s is much easily to slow-dance to.  😉

“You Really Got Me” on that. Her version also brings out the melody more. I think there’s room in the world for both of them.

“Baby Mine” is a song I  commissioned the MLTs to do a cover of for my grandchildren. My wife and I sang it to our kids when they were young when it was bedtime and my oldest daughter sings it to our grandchildren for bedtime since it originally is a lullabye.

When I approached Michaela I suggested an Allison Krause style lullabye with just the Twins and acoustic guitars but told them to give it the MLT special touch. They wanted to go instead with a 4 piece band version with a 60s twist to it. So it went from lullabye to the rockingest version you’ll ever hear. When I played the song for the grandchildren they couldn’t stop jumping around dancing to the “lullabye”. My middle grandson insists on watching it everyday still. I say watching it because my daughters made a video for the song for my Father’s Day gift last year which is adorable. The Wagners have seen the video and enjoyed it thoroughly and if they permit it in the future I may ask if I can post it to the Club or IFC site on Facebook.

Thanks for commissioning the song, Rich! The rest of us get a double win out of it- this faster, uptempo song that we’re enjoying so much and the extra help your financial support gave them helps us have things like this club! I had heard the song by Allison Krause but didn’t know it from Dumbo until I saw the song listing and discovered that on YouTube.
