Mmmmh, we’ve never done something by The Dave Clark Five’s before … tempting … There is another “Because” with lots of harmonies that we’d like to give a go one day too 😉

I can understand why you haven’t recorded this song yet Mona. It would take a considerable amount of your time and resources, but how nice it would be if you could pull it off!

When I first familiarized myself with 60’s music in the 80’s, not knowing who did what, I viewed the DC5’s “Because”, Chad & Jeremy’s “A Summer Song”, and Peter & Gordon’s “A World Without Love” as all being variants on the same lovely composition. I’m gratified that MLT has recorded one of them!

Don’t forget, they have also recorded a Chad & Jeremy song David. It may not be “A Summer Song”, but a lovely alternative all the same, recorded at a Billy Butler show on BBC Merseyside.

When I saw the title of the topic I naturally thought the Beatles’ Because and was going to suggest the DC5 Because, too, since it is not very difficult. The Beatles’ Because would be very difficult to do because, as I understand it, all 4 of the guys were singing/harmonizing acapella/ But, if Mona and Lisa can coordinate God Only Knows, they could handle Because. But, MLT doing either one or both would work for me.

Michael Rife, that was exactly my thinking when I suggested the Dave Clark 5 version to them. The DC5 version uses a lot of augmented chords that were not all that common on the tunes at that time, since these chords are a little jazzier. The Dave Clark 5 version of “Because” would be beautiful for the twins to cover for that very reason… plus it’s a melodic ballad with built in tensions.

I vote for the DC5’s “Because”. One of my all-time favs. Interesting guitar work in the song. Roger
