Chad Stuart
Posted by Michael Rife on 22/12/2020 at 01:02Hi all;
We have lost another one from the 1960s. Chad Stuart of Chad and Jeremy passed away today. They had a few hits from 1964 to 1966…..one of which was Summer Song, a personal favorite of mine and one of the prettiest love songs written. Mike   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfvL2oLeBYs

Hi;
Jeremy is doing well physically. He is still in shock and in mourning some according to his FB page and will say more about Chad later. I think he is doing shows with Peter Asher, of all people, and they play and sing Peter and Gordon songs as well as Chad and Jeremy songs. They also tell a bunch of stories. I believe Jeremy will turn 80 in February or March of next year. Chad was 79 and had a fall a few weeks ago. Then he developed non-Covid pneumonia and passed away from it. Mike.

Mike. That’s too bad to hear about Chad Stuart. That Summer Song is very beautiful and I’ve heard it before. Soon as you mentioned Chad and Jeremy it rang a bell of significance for a moment and then I remembered, and it’s because of the MLT’s cover of one of their songs. Mona and Lisa honored them with this one a while back. Another super sweet song .

I always liked Chad and Jeremy. I loved MLTs version of Yesterdays Gone. Summer Song resonated with me too. And let’s not forget Lady Godiva!

Michael, Lady Godiva is actually by Peter and Gordon, which I only found out after looking it up. I have to confess that I get those two duos confused constantly with regard to which recorded what.

Hi;
I saw Peter and Jeremy play Lady Godiva at a show last year. Soon it turned into a sing-a-long. Peter plays it with a banjolele which gives the song its distinctive sound. But, it was a Peter and Gordon song way back when. Mike.

Chad and Jeremy also appeared and sang on several 60’s TV sitcoms, including The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Patty Duke Show, and Batman.

Hi;
On the Dick Van Dyke show Jeremy there was one line that he always gets reminded of when bumping into fans, Chad and Jeremy were in the living room of Dick Van Dyke and it went something like this:
Jeremy:Â (Pointing to a chair) Do you know what we call that in England?
DVD: (Looking amazed) No, what??
Jeremy: (Deadpanned) A chair!!

Oops. I forgot that Lady Godiva was Peter and Gordon. The first thing to go is the memory, then the uh something. I’ve used that joke before, I think. Or did I? Must be time for bed.
