• Cuckoo Clocks

In my “introduce myself” post, I had a photo of me and in the background, there is one of my Black Forest Chalet Cuckoo clocks. In her reply, Mona stated she liked the clock. I find the Black Forest made clocks almost as charming as the ML Twins. My questions, do you like cuckoo clocks or ever had one? And, I plan to tour the Black Forest area and Bavaria in the future, do you have any must see recommendations?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Tim,

That was a cute clock indeed and it makes sense that it came from a place as charming as the Black Forest. Personally, we’ve never been there but we’ve had our fair share of Black Forest cake so maybe that counts a little? 😉

We have no plans to tour in the foreseeable future but a gig in Bavaria would be great one day!

We never owned a cuckoo clock but a family member used to have one, and as kids we were obsessed with it and the little bird that would greet us every hour.

The fact that it’s been around for hundreds of years is a testament of the playful side of humanity, isn’t it? 🙂

I’ve always been fascinated by Cuckoo Clocks, grandfather clocks, pocket watches, all watches with mechanical movements really, and if a cuckoo bird comes out every hour even better. When you look inside a clock or watch and really wrap yourself around the intricate movement, it’s not too hard to visualize our solar system is also one giant mechanical clock movement too as all the planets orbit the sun in a set time, with each planet rotating daily, with moons revolving around the planets like, and on a bigger scale our own Milky Way Galaxy is made up of billions of suns/solar systems all revolving around a central black hole, all like “clock work”.

It is possible to have a Cuckoo Clock wrist watch. It might require a few easy monthly payments for most of us to own one, but it’s too cool!

The Cuckoo Bird is like the “Orange” in the clock work.

That’s really cool, Jung, but I would be afraid to wear something like that on my wrist out of fear of damaging it, literally with a wave of my hand.

I haven’t thought of cuckoo clocks in quite the same way since seeing this comic strip in the 80’s:

Hi David. I have a string of watches with cracked crystals and scuffed cases caused by slamming them against doors, walls, desks you name it. Thank God none of them are really expensive like the ones in the video. Funny comic strip! I wonder what the origin is of a bird coming out of a clock?
