    Hello Ladies,

Mona, I took you up on your offer to read the E-drum link that you were so very kind to send. Now it has me curious about some more Techy questions when you have time..

I noticed that there are extra cymbals on your drum set and they described the names but not much explanation.

My question is do you have a Ride, Splash, or China Cymbal on your kit? If not what do you have and what do they do/ how are they used?

    Also do you have chimes?

And lastly is their a sound board to control your E-drums?

I realize this may be too much to answer, I’m just really curious and trying to understand how things work from a nerd stand point?

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to read and any answer is much appreciated.

Hope all of you are safe and well.

Loving your Friday posts. Highlight of the week for sure.

    Thanks and stay safe

    Rick

    Hi Rick!

With an e-drum kit you can programme your cymbals to sound like whatever you want – a ride, a crash, a duck sound … . The cymbals and toms are basically just triggers that you assign a midi sample (a snippet of sound) to, so when you hit that particular trigger this is what you’ll hear. That’s what makes them so versatile. 🙂

I generally play with a ride cymbal on my right and a crash on the left, which is a very common set-up, so that is what I would do with my e-drum, too.

As a sound module I use a Roland-TD12. The last time we used the kit live was in 2007. I am sure there are much more advanced ones on the market by now but it did a good job back then!

And lastly, the only time I’ve ever used chimes was when I was playing percussions for a Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel performance. There were a couple of songs for which they came in handy so I bought some for the tour. I haven’t used them since though 🙂

Thanks for the questions as always!

    Mona,

Wow! Thanks so much for the cool answers. Now I have a general idea of how you have things set up?. Your answers also give me a better understanding of how things work.

Its amazing what you can do with the E-kit.

    Fascinating possibilities for sure.

You both are the coolest LADIES on earth!

Thanks ever so much for your time and very groovy answers.

    Stay safe

    Rick.

Yes Rick and Mona…. Good Q and answers…. Quite fascinating…. Makes me recall with fondness when my 2nd oldest bro held basement Wknd jams …. I would in his absence take a whack at his buddy’s drum setup…. Until… One day… He caught me… He was impressed with my sense of rhythms ??

The E-Drum kit sounds a little like my digital piano with all the cool electronic aids ideal for beginners like myself, or advanced creative tools for musicians.  One thing I’ve done during this lockdown is starting my piano lessons which I’ve been doing everyday taking advantage of youtube as my tutor.  The digital piano has a built in metronome, a recorder so I can listen to my own playing down the road and midi hook up to a computer for composing and many other playing accompaniments I will discover as I progress.   But for now, I just use it as a practice piano, and the volume control is handy.  What a far cry from a couple of decades ago when I started lessons then on my old acoustic piano.
