Some of our American friends may not be familiar with the BBC2 Program, “Not the Nine O’Clock News”, which was a British television sketch comedy broadcast on BBC2 from 1979 to 1982. Originally shown as a comedy alternative to the Nine O’Clock News on BBC1, it featured satirical sketches on current news stories and popular culture, as well as parody songs, comedy sketches, re-edited videos, and spoof television formats. The programme featured Rowan Atkinson, Pamela Stephenson, Mel Smith, and Griff Rhys Jones, as well as Chris Langham in the first series.
Rowan Atkinson went on to further fame with his “Black Adder” series while Mel Smith, and Griff Rhys Jones had success with “Alas Smith and Jones.”

I became steeped in BBC shows during the two years I lived in Christchurch New Zealand, including watching “Not the Nine O’Clock News.” I also loved the BBC comedies, especially Blackadder and Faulty Towers! Even better than Blackadder, Rowan Atkinson’s original Mr Bean series was shear comic genius… some of the absolutely funniest shows I’ve ever seen, on either side of the pond!!!

I’m definitely a Mr. Bean fan… Even loved Rowan in Johnny English movie, his Mr. Bean Vacation Movie is hilarious…
As a kid in the 70s, teen in the 80s, etc… The UK British Comedy shows I love are: On The Buses, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, Birds of a Feather, Are You Being Served, The 2 Ronnie’s, Mrs. Brown’s Boys, After Henry, Keeping Up Appearances, Upstairs, Downstairs, Father Ted, Vicar of Dibley, French & Saunders, Absolutely Fabulous, Benny Hill, Me and My Girl, etc…. I love comedy, regardless where it comes from… If it ‘s funny and I laughed hard and have bladder workout, it’ s worthy, Carol Burnett show was Frikkin classic for USA comedy….. Lol

I’ve never seen “Not the Nine O’clock News”, but I was a big fan of an American show that it inspired, called “Not Necessarily the News”.

South Park celebrates the 50th anniversary of Monty Python.

I saw this a while ago, laughed out loud! The old South Parks are the best ones. It hasn’t been the same since they started using computers to animate the series.

“According to My Heart” is an album by Jim Reeves originally released in 1960 on RCA Camden. It was the first of two number-one albums in the UK for American singer Jim Reeves. It spent four weeks at the top of the chart in 1969, five years after Reeves had died.
The MLT are excellent interpreters of songs, as we can see from their cover of John Lennon’s ‘Happy Xmas’ and David Bowie’s ’Starman’. The Reels (from Australia), were also excellent interpreters of other peoples songs.
This is their cover of the Gary Walker composition from 1979.
The Reels – ’According To My Heart’
“According to my heart
You’re the girl for me
The one love of my life is here
When you’re with me
If someone stole your love
My heart would beat no more
For you’re the one
My heart is always longing forThough I don’t know the reason why
My dreams don’t turn out right
Still I’ll keep listening to my heart
Who knows, someday they might
For according to my heart
The future will be bright
And everyday I pray
That my heart knows what’s right“The Reels – ’Bad Moon Rising’ (Creedence Clearwater Revival cover)
The Reels – ’This Guy’s In Love’ (With You)
Those beautiful red and yellow flowers, now who do they remind you of?
And yes, of course I can see the MLT doing fabulous covers of these songs too!

This is an awesome live version of a Velvet Underground classic. Turn up your headphones for that live concert feel!
Lou Reed, “Sweet Jane“ – From “Rock n Roll Animal“

Yes folk, things did get truly bizarre in the seventies!
Marianne Faithful, David Bowie – “I Got You Babe”

Oh, good! Someone has finally developed the technology to record people’s dreams.

Andy Kaufman – Elvis Presley Impression on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show 1977

Mona and Lisa would know this one well. Inspiration for their ‘Orange’ album title!

Not The Nine O’’Clock News – American Election Candidate
Ah! Think Pink, think Zoot! That was the promo for Australis’s pop group Zoot, way back in 1968.

These three sisters from the Netherlands were really big in several countries in the seventies and were the first Dutch group to have a number one song in the UK. The following is the German version of one of their hits.
