Great question, Jacki!
I would love to hear a cover of Sunshine Superman by Donovan. Lisa’s lead guitar would rip into it beautifully and I think their vocals would be perfect for that song. But I’ll tell you- I’m excited about hearing the new covers for the first time. White Room has always been a favorite of mine and I can’t wait to hear how the girls interpret it.
I think the twins have been brilliant to somewhat limit their Beatles covers. They are identified enough with the Beatles- I wouldn’t want them to get too with the Beatles.

Why not Tim? What’s wrong with them getting more with the Beatles? That’s what it’s all about!
I too would like to hear their cover of ‘Sunshine Superman’. Yes, Lisa could do as good as the best of them on that great lead guitar break. Also ‘Waterloo Sunset’ by the Kinks. Another good guitar riff for Lisa and the Stones ‘Ruby Tuesday’, a great opportunity for Mona to shine on the flute. I could also see Rudi helping out on piano.
Almost forgot. Manfred Mann’s ‘Pretty Flamingo’, another great flute opportunity for Mona. And let’s not forget the Hollies ‘On a Carousel’ and ‘Carrie Anne’. I can just see the twins smashing those harmonies. Perhaps a studio job like with their ‘Please, Please Me’ video so they could include the three part harmonies. Brilliant! I can just see Rudi and Michaela getting the studio and video cam ready now! Can’t wait for the final product!

My thinking on that is I don’t want the Twins to be regarded as simply a Beatles cover band. By mixing in so many other great 60’s songs- as well as putting out 2 exceptional original albums- they’ve been able to mostly avoid that. (Oh my goodness, they’ve added an edit button. I love it!)

Oh, for me it has to be one song that came out in 1965. That song is Summer Song by Chad and Jeremy. It is one of the prettiest love songs ever written. One more song would be another Beatles’ cover: Here, There, and Everywhere. Can you tell I kinda like silly love songs?
Best;
Mike

Count me in, Mike cos I love both of those songs. The Twins actually recorded a Chad and Jeremy song called Yesterday’s Gone. It’s a fine song and I like their version of it but I’m with you- I’d have picked A Summer Song. Here’s the link to it in case you aren’t familiar with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NQSpGQ-TzA

Hi Tim;
I have probably heard their Yesterday’s Gone cover but I cannot remember specifically when. They did very well with it on the radio. The things I like about MLT are they are always on key and the harmonies are flawless and their playing is very good. It shows either a lot of practice time or that they know each other so well, they know where the other one is going or both. Well, I hope they can find the time to do the all the covers we like. Mike.

I was kinda gearing this particular
at Mona & Lisa …lol…but that’s ok if others answered.. your replies are interesting???????????? -
Tim has the right idea here… … Yes MLT do awesome covers whether it’s Beatles.. etc… I love them for THEIR OWN STUFF first and foremost but their covers…not far behind.. that’s what makes them standout …

One song I think MLT can do a fantastic job with is “To Love Somebody” by the Bee Gees from 1967. It’s been covered by everybody from Janis Joplin to Ray Lamontagne. While it’s been having a bit of a resurgence lately, I don’t feel it’s been getting a fair treatment.
My 2c.

Hi Tomas;
I agree. There are also other Bee Gee songs that would be good: Words, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, How Deep Is Your Love. Mike.

If the MLT do any more Beatles covers, I’d love to hear “And Your Bird Can Sing” and “Tomorrow Never Knows”. Outside of The Beatles, the first songs that come to mind are 3 by Tom Petty: “Free Fallin'”, “I Won’t Back Down”, and “Two Gunslingers”. I think “Two Gunslingers” would be perfect for Mona and Lisa, because it’s the story of 2 people who refused to do something just because it was what was expected of them. “I’m taking control of my life,” as Petty sings in the song. They realized their lives were too valuable to waste on fitting in with the crowd’s demands.

Ah Larry, now that’s pre 60s. However, I guess he could be allowed as so many 60s bands covered him. I guess we could start with the Beatles’ version of ‘Words of Love’ from the ‘Beatles For Sale’ album. They also did a version of ‘Crying, Waiting, Hoping’ during their BBC sessions.

As for Tom Petty, well we’re really straying from the 60s here but Tom Petty was obviously influenced by the sixties sound. I’d love to hear the MLTs cover his ‘Listen to Her Heart’. Lots of jangly guitar work for the twins to play around with here. And I think Mona would sound awesome on the lead vocals.
And Lisa would smash the guitar riff on ‘And Your Bird Can Sing”! Would be great to hear them do this one.
A good 2c worth too Tomás. Even Eric Burdon and the Animals did a cover of “To Love Somebody”. However, personally I’d prefer to see them cover the BGs ‘Massachusetts’ from the same year.

Hi Jacki, nice Topic you selected, but remember you were asking us what covers we’d like MLT do.
‘What DREAM MLT COVERS CHOICES would you enjoy having MLT do from !?’I think we’ll get Mona and Lisa’s responses in the form of videos, studio or live recordings. I think the anticipation is exciting. Love your passion for all things MLT. They are very special and all of their supporters are not artistic like you!

A couple of other Beatle covers I think would be interesting are “Rain” and “Paperback Writer”. Mike

Definitely ‘Carrie Anne’ , The Byrds “Turn, Turn, Turn” off the top of my head.
