Although I’ve known both songs for over 30 years, it was just a couple of weeks ago that I noticed that Money sounds very similar to Ray Charles’ “What’d I Say”.  And according to Wikipedia, the Beatles regularly performed “What’d I Say” back in their Hamburg days.

They didn’t write it, but I really like this cover from the Beatles’ debut album:

That’s a nice one David.  This song strikes a chord with me as I once had a girl friend with the same name, but with one n.  Ana.

I listened to the What’d I say, and I can hear the resemblance to Money right from the opening bars of Ray’s piano.  On Money we can hear John’s awesome vocals like in Revolution.

Jung, you reminded me of the They Might Be Giants song called Ana Ng.  When I first heard it I had never seen that name spelled with just one “n”, and I was completely unfamiliar with Ng as a name, so I had no idea what the title meant.  But the song was so weird that it didn’t really matter.

    Hey David ,

I agree with you on Money and What’d I Say. They are similar.

Now the Who.  Early morning Cold Taxi.

Can’t  really provide concrete input as I’m not overly familiar with all the stuff from these bands but I will say that I’d probably  would go for an obscure  song from each if I liked tge way it went….

Hey Joe, some awesome videos!  Those live Kinks performances were great.  I think one of John Lennon’s great song writing gifts is the passion he can express in his songs.  No Reply is a great example of that.  What a powerful song!  George Harrison I recall commented somewhere about “Norwegian Wood” and why it was one of his fave Beatles songs.  He said you can feel where John is coming from.

Hey Jung, You are correct John song writing is second to none. His presentation also.

Glad you like the Kinks videos. What did you think of The Who’s – Early Morning Cold Taxi?

Hi Joe, I thought Early Morning Cold Taxi was great.  It has a catchy sound, and I find the lyrics especially intriguing.  Was going to look up the lyrics.

Bill mentioned in one of his post the brilliance of the Who’s album Tommy.  I think Pete Townsend is a brilliant artist right up there with Brian Wilson and the Beatles in terms of originality and inspired creativity, and in this interview he talks briefly of the musical progression from Beach Boys Pet Sounds to Beatles Sargent Peppers to the Who’s Tommy.  I love everything he says in this interview.  I shared this earlier but here it is again.
