A little Canadian pride extreme musicianship. The crowd is loving it when Randy Bachman rings out that famous guitar riff!

To be honest: in the 80s I couldn’t do much with Alan Parsons Project. Too well-behaved, too soft. In the meantime I have almost all albums. Seems to be not so bad after all… . 🙂

I’m most impressed by the bombastic arrangements. A real feast for the ears. Mike Oldfield has done it in his time: Simply take the listener on a journey of sound and imagination. Alan Parson has translated this idea into the world of pop music. Timeless and wonderful. A beautiful kind of extreme musicianship.

Hi Jurgen. Back in the 80s when I first heard “Eye In The Sky”, it really caught my ear. It was one of the best sounds I thought from the 80s. “Silence and I” is beautiful, and yeah that brass orchestral sounds, and drums is really a feast for the ears. Extreme musicianship indeed. Thanks for posting it! ????????

I have to go with Stevie Ray Vaughn. He didn’t just play the guitar he became one with it. Incredible.

Hi Jung. I’ve been thinking for a while whether to post this song here. It probably doesn’t necessarily meet the average musical taste here in the forum. But why not? It doesn’t always have to be “Love me do”. It can also be “Helter Skelter”. Well, 20 minutes are already long and also the music direction is very special. If you have the patience to listen to it, you might get a very special listening experience. I like the very ambitious approach and the tension between classical instrumentation and heavy elements. A song that takes you on a wild journey through space and time. For me: Extreme musicianship (in the truest sense of the word). But as is well known, you can’t argue about taste, only discuss it.

Hi Jurgen, that is quite the epic music journey taking musicianship to the extreme. It started off feeling New Age, and then came the keyboard and bagpipes, and into some metal. It felt a little like Evanescence. I liked it. Reminded me of some of those rock and roll laser light shows I use to go to. Thanks for posting it.

I am thinking about the Dutch group Focus, see https://youtu.be/g4ouPGGLI6Q

They only had 4:30 to play a song of over 6 min.

Hi Fred. Some really awesome guitar work and drumming there by Focus. The singer is quite amazing too, with even some yodeling, first time I heard that in rock and roll. Extreme musicianship for sure, thanks for that.

I also must add Cass Elliot, Dusty Springfield, Patsy Cline to this topic, because of their gifted, distinctive yet versatile vocals that allowed for them to sing in different genres but effectively …

I love this extreme musicianship moment where Mona plays blues harp and guitar and percussion on the wazinator. I can’t comprehend how you can do that, and all while singing amazingly too. Amazing musicianship talent.

I love how Lisa just picks up the cello, learns it for this song, and plays it like a pro so gracefully on this song. Extreme musicianship, extreme talent.

Mike. Here is some Stevie Ray Vaughan and 8 minutes of his amazing guitar work. You can’t stop listening once he starts. I like how broken in his well used guitar looks with his SRV initials on it. I bet that guitar is so tuned to his playing style over time, if someone else picked it up and started playing, it wouldn’t sound right. EXTREME MUSICIANSHIP.

Vaughan played a number of Fender Stratocasters throughout his career, one of which, a 1963 body and a late 1962 rosewood (curved fingerboard) neck, became “the most famous battered Strat in rock history.
