Favorite MLT Beatles cover
Posted by Jung Roe on 20/01/2019 at 04:22What is your favorite MLT Beatles cover?
For me it use to be “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, with Day Tripper, Yesterday, This Boy, You’re Going to Lose that Girl, Drive My Car all close behind. The radio performance of “She’s Leaving Home” is another one I really like.
The latest “Hey Bull Dog” from the recent BAM 3 album have moved up to first place for me now. Actually I never knew of Hey Bull Dog before I heard MLTs version, so it is like a new song for me. The guitar sounds and singing are just fabulous. Love it.

I’ve still gotta go with the one that got me here in the first place – the live performance of “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl.” There are others that I like almost as much (“That Boy”, “World Without Love” (which, while not Beatles, is a McCartney tune)) but “…Lose That Girl” just does it for me.

Lisa’s singing on You’re Gonna Lose That Girl is just stellar. That’s an awesome cover and example where MLT musical depth and talent just shine so brilliantly.

That’s a hard one, Drive my car, Please please me, Day tripper are my top 3 I think.

Those are some great covers you list Tommy, but then all their covers are great arent they. From the interviews I hear it mentioned Drive My Car is a more difficult Beatles song to cover because of the off beat guitar piece. MLT impress with how well they do this one. Love the singing and Monas harmonica on Please Please Me.

I wonder if Lisa could pull off “And Your Bird Can Sing?” Of course, she doesn’t know birds that well.

Ooo, that’s a GREAT question! I’ll bet she could and will eventually. Every time I see someone on Youtube play it well I’m blown away. LOVE that song! Seems to be a hard one but then again I’m just a mediocre bedroom guitar player.

Yes, this is an old question Jung. I have many favourites but the ones that first drew me to them were ‘You’re going to lose that girl’ and the McCartney scribed ‘A World Without Love’. I have on several occasions suggested a cover of ‘And Your Bird Can Sing’ and do think that one day we will be lucky as it is from one of their favourite Beatles albums (Revolver) and after all, it’s about birds!

Howard, Daniel. “And Your Bird Can Sing” has some pretty great guitar riffs. Wouldnt be surprised if MLT already covered it in their many live performances at the Cavern. Perhaps one day we’ll hear this one. I dont think there is anything that Lisa wouldnt be up to a challenge for when it comes to guitar.

On the record, it’s actually George and Paul doing a double-tracked lead, with John just on rhythm (even though he wrote the song). Since the two leads are essentially the same, they come out OK on one guitar on live performances, such as several tribute bands have shown. John didn’t like this song (calling it a “throwaway”) but it’s always been one of my faves. It was used during the opening credits of the Beatles’ cartoon series (remember that?).

And Your Bird Can Sing is also a really catchy tune too, I like it. Some of the Beatles lesser known songs like this and Hey Bulldog are real gems.

If I Fell…..followed closely by You’re Gonna Lose That Girl, Maxwell, and This Boy. Mike.
-
I forgot one of the close tied for 2nd place songs…..”I’ll Follow the Sun” (still like the flute break. For If I Fell that one is the favorite because they do it so well and show they can play many different instruments. The last shot on the video of Lisa pointing the bow at us is still classic. Mike.

Yes, they do an awesome cover of ‘If I Fell’, which is also one of my favourites from the Beatles and now MLT. I tend to think Lisa is pointing the bow at Papa Rudi behind the camera. I wonder how many takes they took.

Mike, Howard. Yes “If I Fell” is one of their best covers doing that Beatles song great justice with the beautiful singing, and wonderful instrumentation throughout. Lisa looks like she mastered the Cello nicely, as she shows us again in Yesterday.
