My Man David ,
Great link on Carol Kaye. I heard of her and many other session musician who played on the original recording and never got a mention of it. Which was a cheat. They should have gotten credit since they played the musical piece. There are a lot of songs out there that the listener thinks it was the band member who came up with that riff , drum roll or bass line, organ etc.. NOT!!!!
The session musicians should have a Hall of Fame. My Opinion , That band Toto were all session musicians and finally made it with creating their own music.

In order to slowdown this posting from starting to go off topic from being specifically intended on Female Guitarists/Bassists, I’ve now created a Female Musicians Vocalists topic posting to where you can share your considerations on who your female musician vocalists are, in their own specific category…

Elizabeth Cotten played the guitar upside down. I know Hendrix supposedly did that. But I never saw him do this. His guitar was right side up. So I do not know if this is true. The times I saw him played he used a left handed guitar and it was a true left handed guitar. But Elizabeth is left handed playing a right handed guitar. Amazing.

Wow, I think Elizabeth Cotten, may be the pioneer for lefthanded guitarists, and as you said even using a right handed guitar, my guess is, at the time, left-handed guitars, weren’t thought of at that point or if so, hard to come by, perhaps by early 50s, lefthanded guitars were created/ became available…but not sure on that, still a feat in itself, to play something awkward, not natural for you but yet you make it work….where’s there’s a will, there’s a way…!!

Jacki – I don’t know the story and this is just a guess. She probably came from a poor family.
They had a right handed guitar and she picked it up and flipped it over and learn that way. When it is all new . I think you can adapt real quick. Cause it’s all new. It’s learning it backward but I can see someone adapting. That’s my take… And She has to be a smart women to put it all together in her mind and sight and muscle memory .

Probably my fave Sheryl Crow tune. Has Mounties, Grizzlies and Rocky Mountains.

Great Video of Dead Flowers! The band I play in now , we do this song and I love singing this one. Our guitar player does a great job with the Mick Taylor lead on this one!!

Bill,
Glad you enjoyed it. I believe right now music is going through a women invasion. Grace is one of those women on the rise.
So you are in a band. What instrument do you play. I myself play guitar.

Hi Jung;
I’ve always thought that Nancy W. was crazy good. She is playing what looks like a 12 string Ovation there….Those are good guitars. I had a 12 string Ovation once upon a time, but I gave it away a while back. Someone else liked it more than I did. Again not a bad guitar, but I just like Taylors and Gibson acoustics more.
Anyway…….yes Nancy has long been regarded as a top guitarist regardless of gender. I don’t know why she is never included in the top 100 lists….she should be.

Hi Mike, yeah Nancy Wilson is great. In this Mojo video top 10 female guitarist list, Nancy Wilson is #2. Joan Jett is #3, and top honors go to Lita Ford. I agree, Nancy Wilson belong in any top guitarist list, regardless of gender.
This video is from 2014, but in the next top 10 female guitarist video they do, they will have to make room for Mona and Lisa. Lead and rhythm guitarist, singers, and songwriters, the incomparable all around diverse female powerhouse that do it all.
