Liza Minelli – I know they play Frank Sinatra all the time. But Liza did it first and it’s her song.
Sorry Frank.

I can’t believe no one’s mentioned Karen Carpenter yet!
And of course, in my opinion, there is no more beautiful and powerful female singing voice than that of Judith Durham:

All great choices, I agree about Karen Carpenter, so sad she left us so soon. Two more voices are Norah Jones (the most soothing voice around) and Alison Krauss who is mostly known as a bluegrass artist but has the most beautiful voice,

I just learned about this singer a couple of weeks ago. She was the lyricist, and original recording artist, of this song that is much better known from a later cover version:

My fellow 70’s kids might be interested to know that she was also the vocalist on the Great American Melting Pot song from the Schoolhouse Rock cartoons.

David I always loved this song. So it was Lori Lieberman who created this masterpiece. There was even a somewhat hip hop version I heard a few years ago that I thought was great. I guess the song is so awesome it’s greatness comes across even behind a hip hop treatment.
