As the 3rd rock from the sun hurls around the sun, and the solar system moves along in the vast universe, it is the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the days start getting shorter each day, but on a much brighter note, it is Fathers Day. A day to remember our personal heroes and legends, our bedrock.

Happy Fathers Day Rudolf and all the Fathers out there.

Here is a Beatles song voted the Best Beatles Fathers Day song:

    The Beatles – Good Night

Growing up with John Lennon as your old man at least meant you got some pretty decent bedtime songs sung to you. And indeed for you. This was written just for Julian Lennon when John had his first child.

Paul Simon – Father and Daughter

Dedicated to “daddy’s girl, Paul Simon remembers “the days when we counted every falling star” and uses his fatherly instincts to advise his favourite girl to “trust her intuition” as she moves through the world.

Happiest of Father’s Days to you, PapaRudi, Rudolf, Mr. Wagner! The grooviest (and I dare venture proudest) Dad on the planet! Many thanks for your, your wife’s, and your offspring’s artistic gifts to us all! Bless you always, sir!

Those are very nice songs, Jung. I wasn’t familiar with them; thanks for sharing.

Along the same lines, this is a song that Paul McCartney wrote and sang for his kids in the early 70’s, although he didn’t record and release it until 1997:

Happy Father’s Day to Rudi and all the dads in the club! This one’s kinda sappy, but it’s the only song I can think of that’s just a flat-out tribute to Dad:

Here’s a more bittersweet ode to Dad. It was written by then-unknown Harry Nilsson, and features a dance routine choreographed and performed by Toni Basil:

This one is for my dad, grateful to have him with us after the bout last year with Covid. I think this is one of Beethoven’s most beautiful pieces performed by my dad’s favourite pianist Wilhelm Kempff playing a piece by his favourite composer.
