Imagine/White Album remixes
Wanted to let everyone know that the Imagine album was just remixed. I give Yoko a lot of credit- she has stayed very busy over the last 38 years making sure John’s music is always updated as new technology comes out. I regret that Olivia Harrison hasn’t done as good a job.
As we all know, John loved echo anyway and while working with Phil Spector, all his songs have loads of reverb. This new album has 61 recordings of about 16 songs- and the real big news is that they have included around 15 tracks that have been stripped of the echo and all of the songs sound fantastic.
Imagine is my favorite Lennon album by the slightest of margins over Plastic Ono Band. What they’ve done here is nothing short of amazing.
And if you haven’t heard yet, they are remixing the White Album. The new version will be out Nov. 9. Included is a remix of the Esther Demo Tapes where they did acoustic demos of 19 of the songs from the White Album (plus 8 that didn’t make it) at George’s house prior to recording the White Album.
I loved the Sgt. Pepper remix from last year. They’ve released the new remix of Back in the USSR and to my ears, it’s not nearly as radical an improvement as the tracks from Pepper. The clean-up of the Esther Demo version of Back in the USSR is far more radical- and possibly more exciting- to hear the Beatles playing these great songs for the first time while they were still in their infancy. -
