Mona plays the harp brilliantly, love it, all while singing, guitaring, and keeping rhythm with the Wazinator.  I also love the harp in Both Sides Now, really carries a soothing beautiful voice line with the harp which adds so much to the song.  She is such a remarkable all around musician indeed, both of them.

I think it’s so cool that if there’s an instrument they think they need for this song or that song, one of the Twins will make the effort to learn to play it and possibly master it.  Lisa admits she’s not a great cello player but what she does with it is great.  Mona can’t play the flute as well as she’d like but when they need her to play she steps up her game (and smiles big when she gets it right).  As for the harp, there’s no question that she really can play it.  Just like Lisa can really play the ukulele.  And then there’s the drums.  If she wasn’t such a damn good rhythm guitarist, I don’t think Mona would ever have reached a point where she thought the drummers they hire to play with them at live performances are better than she is.  Still, she’s the one we hear on their recorded songs (like “Club 27”) so I know she hasn’t slacked off completely.

By the way, I love “Catch the Wind”, not just because of Mona and her harp, but also because of the way Lisa sings it.  It’s like she’s channeling Donovan.

I’m a fan of harmonica and blues harp, and….anyone singing Bob Dylan stuff other than Bob… ( (I’m sorry but his nasal like tone voice drives me insane, can’t listen to him singing ,  nor Neil Young for same reason, their songs are good just not them singing them …lol ) …it’s a senitivity thing  I have,  certain sounds, voices, food, drink make me cringe, literally, can’t tolerate it)

This is the one instrument, I’d enjoy learning because I could just pick it up and start playing…. I’d figure out notes by ear as I can’t read or understand music theory/sheet music.

To play guitar and uke is another dream but my fingers/coordination are’t meant to be for it… I love playing my tambourine, and my other exotic percussion instruments, I”d luv to tackle cajon, drums, cowbell…I’ve played a triangle, I can dabble a little on piano…. I’ve tried a banjo, a drum  called  a Tumba… the Tumba and Banjo was on loan pre-Covid times from the lical public library near me that is one of the participating library branches offering this  lianing of  certain  music instruments…

I am with you, Jacki.  I do not like Dylan’s voice, but luckily, this song is one of those classic songs that is covered a lot.  It’s a beautiful Bob Dylan song that sounds better when someone else sings it. IMHO

This is the best version I have ever heard.  Mona brings so much emotion to this song through her blues harp.  Well, any song for that matter.  The harmonica on “Both Sides Now” is angelic.

Mona’s vocals sound kool, too.  I wonder if she has ever done a Bob Dylan impersonation?  There’s a good one for the next Q&A.

Who can sound more like Dylan, Lisa or Mona?

LOL, JP! Interesting question.   🙂   I think a competition for who can sound more like Dylan might not be one neither Mona or Lisa might be willing to brag about, though with their singing prowess they could both easily do Dylan better than Dylan.
