Lisa and the saxophone
Posted by Dale Harris on 20/10/2019 at 14:03During the MLT Club birthday video Lisa said that if we wanted to hear something gruesome, we should see her on the saxophone. Halloween is looming, and who doesn’t mind a little gruesome at this time of year? But actually, are you learning the sax?

Haha that would be a very poor listening experience. Our stepmum Michaela plays sax (you can see her play on some of our earliest YouTube videos) so I have had a go at it before. But the few times I tried it, I could hardly get a tone out of that thing.
Of course, it’d be fun to try it a bit more, and I love the sound of it. But I can’t sing while playing it which is a bit of a bummer …

That reminds me Lisa of when I chose to do the trumpet as my instrument of choice for Band class in grade 8. I can totally relate to that statement! I struggled with it all year and managed to play with the band, but those wind instruments aren’t for everyone (not that you wouldn’t excel at it). I was glad there were other guys much better than me in the band so my poor playing didn’t stand out! My lips went numb for hours after band practice.  🙂 Michaela sounded wonderful on the Sax in that 2007 concert performance, especially in “Aint No Sunshine”. Would be great to hear or see her do the Sax again in a future song or video!

I had tried and failed trumpet and the music class in Grades 7 & 8, got taken out as I was struggling badly… Had they a choir, I’d of been better at singing or if they had tambourine /cowbell, I perhaps would of had a chance to at least just pass music class… Of course the teacher I had didn’t help, he was a professional musician… His idea of Perfection and the high caliber standard he set didn’t exactly go over very well to those who in his mind were failures and a waste of his time to teach in his class… Now he conducts the local chapter of Salvation Army Band at a Xmas Concert that I go to every year now for awhile now to see as a friend of mine is in it… He also go figure, ended up marrying the student music teacher we had in Grades 7 & 8 at our middle school at the time… Lol… He’s still the perfectionist /Professional with attitude that I don’t fondly remember of him by…
