Interesting suggestion John. I’ve no doubt they could do a rocking version. This is an indication of what a rocking version of their “Little Drummer Boy” might sound like.
I’d love to see/hear a version like this with Papa Rudi on bass, Mona on drums, Lisa on lead guitar and either Mona or Lisa on lead vocals! It would be awesome!

John, I definitely like Joan Jett’s version of I Love Rock and Roll the best too! Crimson and Clover is another nice one of Joan Jett I always liked.

Yes, a great cover Jung. As for the sixties original:
From Wikipedia.
”’Crimson and Clover’ is a 1968 song by American rock band Tommy James and the Shondells. Written by the duo of Tommy James and drummer Peter Lucia Jr., it was intended as a change in direction of the group’s sound and composition. “Crimson and Clover” was released in late 1968 as a rough mix after a radio station leaked it.
It spent 16 weeks on the U.S. charts, reaching number one in the United States (in February 1969) and other countries. The single has sold 5 million copies, making it Tommy James and the Shondells’ best-selling song. (Note: the RIAA did not award a gold record so the 5 million sales number is not officially acknowledged.) It has been covered by many artists including Joan Jett and Prince.

I do love Joan Jett’s “I Love R&R”… and I’ve always enjoyed the original ” Crimson and Clover” song… I could envision MLT’s takes on these…. The only song I even remotely can tolerate of Miley (formerly known as Destiny Hope) Cyrus singing is her cover of Dolly Parton’ s “Jolene”… Lol…

Yes, almost anything from the Bangles should sound great when done by MLT. Both groups have that same 60’s sensibility.
I name-dropped this one a while back as the one I’d most like to hear them do:

Not too many singers can hit that sweet note as well as the MLT. Their harmonising is perfection as can be heard on their Xmas album. Wouldn’t it be a treat to see them tackle a song like this one from Bobby Hatfield who had an extraordinary vocal range. Both Bill and Bobby wanted to record this song which Bobby won via a coin toss!
Wings of Pegasus – The Righteous Brothers Live, 1965. Bobby Hatfield sings “Unchained Melody”.
-
Just curious; how would you (anyone) like to see MLT divide up the vocal work on Unchained Melody? Solo Lisa? Solo Mona? Alternating solos? Intermittent harmony? Harmony all the way through?
-
I’d go with the Righteous Brothers way. The toss of a coin. But I don’t think Mona and Lisa are gamblers somehow!

Great analysis video Howard. Bobby Hatfield performance is awesome. What a vocal range. Unchained Melody would be a great one for MLT. Speaking of vocal range, Mona and Lisa certainly have taken many songs to higher sublime places I never heard in the original because of their awesome vocal range with their harmonies. Just in the Christmas album alone there is Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy, Walking in the Air, and Silent Night. Their amazing vocals are breathtaking. Little Drummer Boy, is a great testament to how great MLT harmonies are, able to carry the whole song to breathtaking depths without any instruments other than the light drums. Just their incredible amazing voices can do everything.

Very appropriate for the MonaLisa Twins living in Liverpool, one would think.

It just struck me that Mona’s and Lisa’s voices could perfectly fit the mood of this song:

Yes, nice one David. I also think the MLT could work their wonders with this equally beautiful song from them. Very consistent with the Twins philosophy I think!
The Rascals – People Got to Be Free
“All the world over, so easy to see! People everywhere, just wanna be free. Listen, please listen! that’s the way it should be Peace in the valley, people got to be free.”

Well… Just to spice things up a little… In the genre of old school country music, I could definitely see MLT put their spin on Dolly Parton’s Jolene…. Anything by Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline (Patsy’s music did crossover into pop/jazz genres and very versatile was her voice…. I can see them even doing Roy Orbison…. Linda Ronstandt… MLT’s vocal versatilities allows them to take any song, give it their own touch….. In my opinion, they can do practically any music genre, as once they ‘ve set their mind on a song, it’ s full MLTBuzzing Groovy Ahead… Lol?

Well I think I’ve covered all my favourite Hollies songs, apart from several. How about this one from 1969, tailor made for Mona’s acoustic guitar and her unique drumming style and Lisa’s Gretsch lead. Now who on lead vocals, or would this be shared?

The Lemon Pipers – Green Tambourine
“Green Tambourine” is a song about busking, written and composed by Paul Leka (who also produced it) and Shelley Pinz. It was the biggest hit by the 1960s Ohio-based rock group The Lemon Pipers, as well as the title track of their debut album, Green Tambourine. The song was one of the first bubblegum pop chart-toppers and became a gold record.
Mona and Lisa know what it’s like to busk, having done so in both California and Australia and no doubt other places, like Dublin and Liverpool.
I can well imagine Mona having fun with a tambourine and percussion on this song, along with Lisa having a go at the electric sitar, with Papa Rudi assisting on keyboards and tape loops!

Jagger, jacket off, jacket on! They may be miming, but no one was as cool as Mick Jagger singing in 1964, with a baby faced Keith Richards delivering the lead guitar solo. And yes, I could well imagine Mona and Lisa doing their thing with this number from the bad boys of the British Invasion.
The Rolling Stones – “Heart Of Stone” (1964)

Lol… Howard… Jacket on /off…… Well… In younger times Keith looked good but then…The flipside occurred… Mick became better looking with age…. But I will say Keith definitely suited the role as Captain Jack’s Dad in one of the Pirate of the Caribbean movies… (2nd or 3rd one I think)…. Again, only my womanly opinion…. Lol
