The Hollies Remember – Carrie Anne was actually Marianne (Faithful)
-
Fascinating! Now that makes me wonder about the Four Seasons song “C’mon Marianne”.

Please, please me, Mona and Lisa. Another Hollies cover is long overdue. Just think how much fun you could have with this one. Never mind about the steel drums. I’m sure you could improvise with a cello or flute or some other instrument, or papa Rudi could provide the appropriate backing tape like the Hollies did when playing live!

Okay, hear me out on this one: MLT as the Righteous Sisters!

Obviously they’re not going to duplicate the voices, but it would be a treat to hear them harmonize in this style, so emotive and yet so precise.
-
Yes, that would be nice David, but I think I’d prefer to hear The Righteous Sisters doing a cover of this one:
The Righteous Brothers – “Unchained Melody”

Howard, David. I agree, some of those Righteous Brother’s hauntingly beautiful harmonies I can imagine would be so beautiful by Mona and Lisa.
-
Color My World is one Chicago’s most beautful songs with it’s simple and gentle piano and guitar riff throughout. I can imagine the beautiful instrumentation magic MLT could do with this along with their harmonies. There is even a beautiful flute solo at the end for Mona.
-
Look Through Any Window is probably my favorite Hollies songs. That would be great with a MLT cover! I’d also love to hear a cover of the Monkee’s Pleasant Valley Sunday, or maybe Daydream Believer. I’m a big Elvis Presley fan… and there are some Elvis numbers that just beg for some MLT love too!

Tony Hicks plays “Look Through Any Window” – The Hollies
The MLT could work wonders with this song!
-
Totally agree about the Righteous Brothers. Both songs would be fabulous with the MLT magic. I also like the Hollies’ song “Look Through Any Window” more every time I hear it. That one had passed me by also. I wish my older sister had had a broader taste in music and bigger budget for records.

That’s a great video clip Howard. I’ve not seen that one before, but I have seen several other recorded performances of the song. One of my absolute favorite non-Beatles 1960’s numbers! And yes, Mona and Lisa could make an incredible cover of this!!!
-
Yes, it was a new one on me too Paul. Excellent live performance. Notice how hard Bobby Elliot had to work on the drums. They weren’t miked up like they are today. He’s a great drummer and has been continually touring with the Hollies (he and Tony Hicks being the only original members) with various other musicians filling in. I’ve seen them live a couple of times over the last ten years.
Have you watched the initial Hollies videos in this Topic? Also excellent songs with that unique Hollies sound.
-
Yes Howard. I’ve actually always been a Hollies fan. Some of those clips are really awesome!

This group only had one hit in Australia, but they were much bigger in their home country of the US.
Grass Roots’ Medley

Which one was their Australian hit, Howard?
The Grass Roots were one of three opening acts, along with Herman’s Hermits and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, in the first rock-and-roll concert I ever saw in person. The featured group was The Monkees, during their MTV-fueled 1986 tour.

It was “Midnight Confessions”, released in 1968. I don’t think any of their other singles were released here for some reason. I remember this one well.
-
I just checked a Wikipedia article that shows eleven Grass Roots singles reaching the top 100 in Australia, but only Midnight Confessions (#18) and Bella Linda (#35) made the top 50. The numbers are from the Kent Music Report, which you’re in a much better position to assess than I am.
-
You are correct David, and I do remember “Bella Linda” being played on the radio. As for their other singles released here, I didn’t catch up with them until much later in the seventies, and don’t remember any of their songs being played on the radio apart from “Midnight Confessions” and “Bella Linda”.
