I wanted to create a little play list of some of Mona and Lisa’s greatest guitar work. I invite others here to add their favourites.

When I want to listen to some amazing piano I put on Alfred Brendel playing Beethoven or Mozart, Glenn Gould playing Bach, or a few other legendary 20th Century pianists do Chopin or Liszt. When I want some great guitar music, it’s none other than Lisa’s finger picking on the lead guitar and Mona backing her on rhythm guitar! I’ve enjoyed so many incredible moments since 2017 when my spirit floats aloft in the sky above bouncing off one beautiful note after another from Lisa’s magical guitar playing and Mona’s beautiful strumming on the rhythm guitar, add in their sublime vocals and harmonies, and I’m in heaven.

To kick it off, I absolutely adore this one. Such truly magnificent guitar work from a very young Lisa, and Mona kicking in with beautiful strumming on the rhythm guitar.

I remember in an interview posted earlier this year with John Sebastien, John asked Lisa how the “finger picking” was going, and a modest Lisa replied to the effect she was working on it. What an understatement.

This isn’t a guitar, but expresses just how good Lisa’s “finger picking” is. If Lisa was a pianist, her finger picking would be on the spectrum somewhere between Mozart and Liszt.

I can feel those guitar strings vibrate. Magic with just two acoustic guitars.

Such beautiful sounds from the Ukelele and guitar, and love the harmonies and vocal counterpoint.

We’re all so lucky here to have so much beautiful music at our finger tips, and a front row seat to exclusive music at the MLT Club. We are all spoiled with so much amazing second to none musical talent, and more original masterpieces on the way in a few weeks when the new album gets released. Awesome times to be on the MLT musical journey.

I love the infectious catchy melody driven by the melodic guitar work that captivates the listener. The vocals and guitar play along together in unison wonderfullly. Some really superb guitar flourishes in this song really stand out. Love Lisa with the White Falcon, and Mona rocking out on the guitar in the Pope outfit always makes me smile, brilliant!

Some great guitar sounds I can hear on the new album from the sneak peeks.

With Mona and Lisa working and playing at their craft as long as they have, they are, by now, fully mature musicians. Watching Lisa finger picking Mr. soft on the uke shows she can play anything she wants. That clip reminds me of gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, and what a hoot it would be, to be a fly on the wall in the Wagner household, watching, and listening, not unlike Abbey Road Studios, back in the day.

Sometimes, though, just listening is enough. Just yesterday, I had on the MLT Jukebox while doing something else in an adjacent room, and White Room came up. Not the most high profile MLT cover, nonetheless it sounded damn good, and I would suggest, giving Mr. Clapton himself, (once upon a time, (a) god for some), a run for his money.

I’m also so taken by those sweet, simple, electric f(r)ills on Walking In The Air. Lisa just has a way with guitars.

Oh my your so right Jung, they both create such a great guitar lead and Lisa seems to take most leads, while Mona has her moments with leads such as I should of Known Better, She’s a woman, etc…Lisa has a special touch and is so smooth with her leads and slide guitar as well. I have mentioned on previous posts that I wonder for Eric Clapton or Ronnie Wood or Keith Richards have seen or heard of the Mona Lisa Twins and the fantastic musical ability’s they both have. I stand by my words, no one covers the Beatles like Mona and Lisa and other classic songs. I do have XM radio and listen to the Beatles Channel a lot and I get sick to my stomach listening to some of the covers out there. Mona and Lisa capture the essence of the song and never take it away, they breathe new life in to classics.

Jung, great selection and I second Len on White Room, which blew me away on first listen and shows that the Twins are not confined to sweet ballads a la “Close to You”.

In my opinion, no discussion of their amazing guitar work is complete without a mention of their absolutely incredible cover of the Zombies’ “Time of the Season”. The interplay of the two guitars during the two breaks is sparking with energy, like an electrical transformer that could explode at any moment.

Hi David, yeah I agree, MLTs White Room, and Time Of Season, with their own unique guitar work and vocals made them all their own, while remaining true to the essence of the original. They just sound awesome. I love the classical Spanish guitar sounds in Time Of The Season. I’ve never seen that video before with MLTs Time Of Season, nice!

On that video, I think someone took an existing Zombies video and swapped out the audio. I seem to remember an MLT original video. Do you know it? It seems to have disappeared. Anyway, the interplay of the two guitars is really nice. I know nothing about music, so “really nice” is about the extent of my musical analysis!

The original MLT Time Of The Season video came out prior to Halloween a few years ago. It was oh so clever, but rather gruesome, so I guess they subsequently thought it had pushed the envelope a bit too far, and decided to take it down. This was, at the time, Lisa’s skill with Photoshop. Mona was “the victim” of quirky, and rather macabre MLT humour. I’ll leave it at that.

Yes! That’s the one! I guess I hadn’t seen the video but a couple of times before it disappeared. At the time I was just impressed with the Photoshop work, since I’ve used Photoshop at work for the last 20+ years but not to that level. Fairly recently I heard or read that Lisa had been using Photoshop since she was a kid and my jaw hit the floor as it dawned on me that the Photoshop was all Lisa’s. I never thought it was gruesome, just gruesomely fun.

I hope it finds its way back into the light of day. Now that I more fully appreciate the Twins it’d be a whole new level of awesome.

Didn’t Lisa talk about Time of the Season in a Q&A’s, or it may have been an Ask the Twins post? I remember she said the guy that created the software she was using contacted her to complement her art. He liked what she created with the software he created
