hi Mona. I must say I’m not weird lol but I have noticed you and possibly Lisa ( I cant remember ) using something like a tambourine over your foot. What is it called and do they make enough of an addition on recording. I’m interested because I am experimenting with a looper and trying to record some tracks. Yet to come up with an idea for drums lol. Watch this space. You girls have inspired me to attempt this watching your vids.

    Hi Paul!

Haha, yes it is a neat little addition to our duo sessions that I came across a while ago. Here is a link to one of them: https://www.thomann.de/gb/lp_lp188_foot_tambourine.htm

I’ve also stepped/tapped on a regular tambourine on the ground before but they tend to slip around that way. I can recommend the little foot tambourines (there is a shaker, too) for acoustic settings, and if you’re playing around with a looper I’m sure they can come in really handy (if you find a good way to mic them up)! Let me know if you end up getting one!

Good luck with your recordings 🙂

Years ago I had a friend who lived in a up stairs apartment. I’d take my guitar up there for some good jams. There was a young couple who lived below who had a new baby. The guy knocks on the door and said he liked the music but the banging on the ceiling was keeping the baby awake. As hard as we tried we couldn’t get that same groove back without the foot. I tell my kids if they want to get their rhythm down use your foot. Of course no one is better at it than Mona with her Stomp Box.

I agree. I’m not sure if there’s a scientific explanation but a foot tap really does keep timing on the mark. I’d love to have a drum kit around the place but think my neighbours would have something to say about that????Seeing Mona using this just made me think I could at least get an extra element into a recording.

I know what you mean about neighbors! But back in my drumming days (VERY long ago now) my next door neighbors used to like hearing me play. And they were both old folks! We played mostly 70’s rock and hard rock so it was LOUD! I remember one summer we decided to set up outside on the back patio and shortly after we started the cops came a calling! We had to stop.
