Back in November, the Twins pointed out that “Still a Friend of Mine” had reached 2 million views on FaceBook. I hadn’t spent much time watching videos on Facebook (still don’t) so I was somewhat flabbergasted. I did a quick check of view counts on other songs at that time, but unfortunately, I didn’t write anything down. I think that “Wish You Were Here” was already ahead, but I’m not certain.
What makes the FaceBook view count for “Still a Friend” significant is that it’ has barely over 300,000 views on YouTube. Seventeen of their cover songs have over a million views on YouTube, but the highest count for an original (as of 5/24/2021) is 416,000 for “That’s Life”.
Anyway, I spent the morning checking out view counts on FaceBook and discovered some interesting facts.

Number one: Although some songs are popular on both FaceBook and YouTube, other songs have far more views on one media over the other. “Still A Friend of Mine”, has another half million views on Facebook since it passed 2 million in November, while getting only 50,000 views on YouTube in that same time period. On the other hand, “You’re Going to Lose That Girl” has 1.6 Million views on YouTube, but only 76,400 views on FaceBook.

Number Two: None of their Christmas songs have over 100,000 views on YouTube, while four songs (out of seven) have passed that mark on FaceBook. “Little Drummer Boy” leads the pack with over 400,000. “All I Want Christmas to Be” is at 98,700, by the way.

Number Three: As I pointed out above, Original MLT songs are overshadowed on YouTube by their cover songs. On FaceBook they are very much in the mix with three of their originals in the top five.

Number Four: “Drive my Car” recently passed 5 million views on YouTube and now has 5.15 million (It’s not on FaceBook). “Wish You Were Here”, on the other hand, has a combined 5.3 million views. It should be noted that “Drive my Car” took over 8 years to reach 5 million. “Wish You Were Here” took less than 14 months. Combined counts, by the way, give MLT 20 songs with over 1 million views.

Finally, “Both Sides Now” will hit 100,000 views in an hour or two on YouTube. It’s already over 130,000 on Facebook.

Thanks Lynn, this is great! I was a little surprised by a couple of the results, especially the Christmas songs. I expected them to be more balanced. I am not surprised by Wish You Were Here’s performance.
    It’s perfect.

I just watched Both Sides Now 100,524. One million is just around the corner. These Duo Sessions are amazing. As soon as they begin it’s stop, watch, listen, repeat. It’s still as amazing as it was the first time I heard and saw it.

Thanks for compiling all of these stats.
Thanks to all of the statisticians in the house!
    These numbers are impressive.
