Well i have had this idea in mind for a long time.
Let me start by saying i don’t intend to pressure anybody,
and the Twins are clearly focused on a set of originals.

But i assume they will reach a point when they ask themselves
“what do we do next?” … so i feel like i should share a dream of mine with the
    MLTC.

I have in mind a CD of about 20 songs which i call North American Classics.

I am wondering out loud if a CD like this would be commercial successful.
I also wonder how much of a good 20 song CD of N.A. stuff is already waiting
    to appear on a CD.
I ALSO wonder how many of my/our favorites are already in the request list (34 million plus).

My personal bias is to NOT include songs that have been covered a lot
(like City-of-New-Orleans and Hotel California) but rather well known songs which
could use a fresh coat of paint and a great harmony version.

I won’t bore everyone with my song list – bet let me share the outline.
    A. Two songs from Nashville.
(We already have “That’s all right mama” by Elvis)
    B. Three or four from Greenwich Village.
(We already have: “It ain’t me babe”, Dylan; “Daydream”, Sebastian; “Mrs. Robinson”, Simon)
    C. Two or three from Canada.
(We already have “Both Sides Now” from Joni – but it’s been covered a lot)
    D. Two from Motown.
    E. Two from mid-west/americana
(We already have “Wake up little suzie”)
    F. Four from L.A.
(We already have “People are strange”, “California Dreaming”, “God only knows”.
    G. Three from the Bay Area
(We already have “Samba pa ti” by Carlos Santana)

As i’m sitting here Bill Isenberg just touched this subject tangentally with the Twins.
    Great minds think alike.

    Does anybody have any thoughts?

Well, I think it’d be cool groovy for MLT to tackle some more Canadian music, such as Guess Who, BTO, etc , but am glad they did a Joni Mitchell one????????

    Jacki,
    Thanks for responding.

I had in mind The Circle Game by Joni & Early Morning Rain (the earliest nugget of Gord’s gold. 🙂

It’s the folkie in me coming out.

Hi Thomas, yes echoing what Jacki said, something Canadian would be sweet. Anything Guess Who, like These Eyes, or BTO Taking Care of Business are classic rock and roll at it’s finest. A more modern Canadian classic could be Bryan Adams Summer of 69

For USA, maybe something CCR, Byrds or Crosby Stills and Nash, or something Beach Boys from Pet Sounds. 🙂

Another California band the Association. I can see the twins doing Never My Love.
I would love to hear them do George Harrison My Sweet Lord . I think they would do great versions. But I also would like to hear them do some more new writing and produce some more new music of their own. .

I am curious to know what everyone thinks about how many songs they have ready, that aren’t already on a CD.
I also wonder how many songs in their huge request list would fit in.

    Cheers

I’m thinking of plenty, too many to fit on here…lol but would love to see them do “Paper Back Writer”, ” Long and Winding Road”, I can hear their renditions of those in my head no problem… the songs also mentioned in this topic from other replies, etc.
If the song lends itself musically, in terms of vocals compatibility, with MLT, it can be done, regardless of what era it came from.

How about some Bob Segar like Get out of Denver or Old Time Rock and Roll. I know our wish list for covers is way too big for them to even think about but we can dream. Can’t wait to hear their new music!

Thomas great post my friend! I remember asking the twins if they had any songs on the shelf that is not done or passed over and Lisa answered saying yes and maybe some of these songs are on that shelf? i Think Jim Croche and Helen Reeday are a couple of artists I feel the twins can cover and cover well. I think they would cover Bridge Over Troubled Waters with perfect harmony in my book .

    Jung, regarding the Yardbirds,

Did you notice it was Jeff Beck on lead guitar in the black&white portion and
Jimmy Page in that purple & lavender outfit in the color version ?
