Here is an interesting interview with Paul McCartney as he talks about his creativity that led him to be a song writer, poet, and painter.  He says it was all about “the magic of creating something out of nothing.”  “It just starts with a feeling to do it.”

Famous French pianist Helene Grimaud is quoted to have said, referencing founding precepts of the German Romantic Movement, “…artists: musicians, poets, writers, painters found their inspiration in nature following this idea we don’t invent anything, we rediscover what is already there.”  Michelangelo said “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Interestingly in the interview it seems Paul McCartney echoes a similar sentiment when he talks about Eleanor Rigby.

Anyway, just some fun food for creative thought these days as we sit at home.    🙂

This is really fascinating, Jung!  I was especially struck by Paul saying that often the lyrics he comes up with are inspired simply by the rhythm of the song.  That’s a much more analytic technique than I expected.

That’s kinda how I rock n poetically  roll… I think up lyrics with the way the song /tune sounds in my mind, the right words will conjure up to compliment what I want to convey??

David, Jacki, yes that sort of deriving the lyrics out of the rhythm and melody Paul mentioned was quite fascinating, like in Yesterday.  In that recent MLT Kansas City interview, I recall Lisa also mentioned while the creative process for each song can be different, no one rule, she did mention how they sometimes start with a melody and derive the lyrics from it too.  Great artistic minds think alike!  I never knew Paul was into poetry, and painting too!  His stuff must have been pretty good for them to exhibit his stuff at one point.   Bob Dylan was also a good visual artist too, and as we all know Mona and Lisa are the same.
