For our American cousins, petrol is what you call gas (gasoline) and is an abbreviation of petroleum, the source of the fuel we put in our machines!

    petrolhead (plural petrolheads)

(colloquial) A person who is overly reliant on the use of their car, resisting any suggestion to use other means of transport.

(colloquial, Australia, New Zealand, derogatory) A bogan who is overly fond of his car or motorbike and enjoys showing it off and making noise with it.

(colloquial, Australia, New Zealand) A person involved in motor racing as either participant or dedicated spectator.
    (colloquial, Britain) A car enthusiast.

    (colloquial, Britain) A car enthusiast.”

By the way, the term “bogan” is normally meant in a derogative way.  However, some Petrolheads wear the term as a badge of honour!

“Petrolheads is a BBC panel game presented by Neil Morrissey, with team captains Richard Hammond and Chris Barrie. The show pitted motoring wits against each other and included car stunts shot on location. There were two guests each episode. The show was produced by Brian Klein (Top Gear), directed by John L Spencer and executive producers were Marie-Claire Walton and Steve Ayres. The theme music was by British composer Leigh Haggerwood. It was created and scripted by prolific author Norman Giller, with input from Top Gear writer Richard Porter and comedy scriptwriter Ged Parsons.”

Please feel free to post photos of your pride and joy here!

I love the retro look of your Bonneville.  I always thought Triumphs were the best looking bikes and was glad to see they kept that iconic look.

The carburetor isn’t real. This model year they introduced direct fuel injection but included the carburetor housing to keep that retro look! It was dropped in models several years later. They had two versions of the Bonneville and this was their ‘cruiser’ version. A few years later they introduced a new cruiser, the Thunderbird, which was initially 1600 cc. A great bike. Did several test rides on it but eventually decided on the Moto Guzzi Cali 1400. I also did a couple of test rides on the Triumph Rocket 111. Also a tremendous bike but at 2300 cc, much bigger and far more powerful than my needs.

And my Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring bike purchased in 2013. This was the first model to be introduced with a 1400 cc engine, up from the previous 1200 cc.

OK… To put in my 2 cents worth on here, I’ve only ever been on 2 motorcycles in my life, the one time could of killed me but Thankfully I and the idiot driver were soared to live this ending my liking for motorcycle riding thereafter but I still luv them Harleys… Especially Black and Purple or Black and Fuschia Pink or a combo of all 3 colours….

I love vintage cars and trucks from 1900s-1970s more specifically in the 1900s – 60s eras

I like Hot Rods, Ferrari /Lamborghini… Etc

Apparently my first word I had said that is  written as a record of it in my baby book was indeed…. Car… Lol…. And the irony in that is… I don’t have nor will I probably ever get my driver’s license… I was never quite keen on that idea when I was 16… I was happy being in a car as a passenger…. #1:  I’m too short to drive car properly without having specific modifications to drive safely, #2: I tend to have short attention span and lose focus easily and get easily distracted by whatever… Yes, once in awhile I do wish I had learned to drive but then that moment passes as quickly as it comes… Happy walking, taking bus, train, someone else driving me…. Lol…

I did enjoy driving our lawn tractor  (riding lawn mower) and of course  my Dad/Grandpa’s Farmall Cub International Harvester Tractor Model????? around the property/yard of our house and in field across from our house at the time… Only driving for fun, not to cut the grass…. Lol…. I almost hit a tree with lawn tractor going between slow-fast thus further proof that I’m only meant to enjoy cars from a distance, by passenger view and admiring cars… Just not to drive…. Lol… That’s what you get when one is 4 foot 6 ish approximately tall in height, such as I… My late Mom could drive, she was about 4’10–4’11. Her feet could just safely reach peddles when her seat was pulled to as close to steering wheel as it could go…

If you want a really goid sense visually of how I would drive…. Remember the one scene in Ferris Bueller ‘s Day Off movie (I think it was from this movie), it’ s the scene where all you see is just the top half of old lady’s beehive hairdo driving at steering wheel… Lol, that would describe me at driving best!!!!

Well Jacki, thank you for sharing that with us. In future I’ll always picture you driving a car like that little old lady in the Ferris Bueller movie.

I don’t quite understand your comments about your motorcycle riding experiences though.

Well Howard let me explain better… I was half awake when I posted that earlier this morning… I’ve only been on motorcycles twice and the one time almost cost me either death or broken bones but luckily didn’t…. We were at a friend’s of my parents place  and one their other friends were there, been drinking and decided to take me down the farm lane way for a spin, I was young, didn’t know guy was drunk otherwise I’d never got on motorcycle, he wiped out on road near end of lane way, we both flew off bike… Now you can understand my comment previously a bit more clearly now…. I hope….
