Providing Value
I get phone calls everyday telling me what I’ve won or how free something is, only to find out I’ve won nothing and free doesn’t quite mean free. It’s becoming more and more difficult to trust anything- just hate that because the sky is so much bluer when you have things you can believe in. Enter the MonaLisa Twins.
First of all, they’ve always provided value with their records. Their live album contains 24 songs, WWT contains 11- and then they turned around and gave us free videos for all 11 of those songs!, BAM has 15, and Orange has 12. The two new BAMs contain 13 and 14 songs and we all know the industry standard is 10. So thanks for that!
And then there’s the 100 plus videos they’ve given us free of charge on YouTube. These videos weren’t hastily thrown together; they required hours and hours and hours of planning, execution and pulling out the old checkbook. What a gift those videos have been!
Now they create this Club and tell us we’ll have better access to them- guess what: we certainly have! I just read these wonderful articles by Lisa and Mona about the writing of the song June and the making of the June and Birds videos. Awesome stuff!
Having direct access to them- even for a couple of minutes is very exciting. Yes, I come from an era where we tended to make our rock stars into something extraordinary and special- but I like having heroes. John, Paul, George and Ringo have filled the bill beautifully for 55 years but I also need the Dan Fogelberg’s, Moody Blues, Tom Petty’s and MonaLisa Twins to fill in the gaps.
I know Dan Fogelberg isn’t (well, sadly Dan left us a few years ago) some all wise guru who has insight into all things. But his line, “Let every creature I see be a brother and a friend, Let every step that I take leave the footprints of a warrior” spoke deeply to be about the importance of combining toughness and kindness. When the MonaLisa Twins tell me that nothing is in vain- it helps me to let go of certain frustrations and failures that I otherwise wouldn’t relinquish. Thanks for that big time, Girls!
Value, in another time and place might be expected and simply fair play. In our time, it’s a breath of fresh air and almost a miracle!
