Q Songs
Posted by David Herrick on 13/02/2022 at 05:25“Questionable” has caused me to realize how few songs have titles beginning with the letter q, even allowing for how rare that letter is. I can only think of two English language examples: “Quarter to Three” by Gary U.S. Bonds and “Quicksand” by Martha and the Vandellas. Can anyone think of any others?

Well, I was thinking specifically of English language examples, but yes, it becomes much easier if we include Spanish. The first ones I thought of were “Que Sera, Sera” by Doris Day and “Quando, Quando, Quando” by Pat Boone.

Okay, this one may be a little pedantic, but I’m gonna throw it in because it’s just so doggone adorable.

From my own library:
Qoquaq En Transic – Jon Anderson
Quick Words – Jon Anderson
Questions 67 & 68 – Chicago
Quinn the Eskimo – Bob Dylan
Quit Your Lowdown Ways – Bob Dylan
Queen Jane, Approximately – Bob Dylan
Quatrain – Jethro Tull
Questions of my Childhood – Kansas
Quality Shoe – Mark Knopfler
Question – Moody Blues
Queen of the Slipstream – Van Morrison
Queen of Rain – Roxette
Quality – Paul Simon
Quasar – Smalltown Poets
Quartet – Yes
And about 35 others in Spanish, so I’m glad we eliminated those! Some others that come to mind that I don’t actually own:
Quasar – Smashing Pumpkins
Queen of the Highway – the Doors
Queenie Eye – Paul McCartney
Queer – Garbage
Questions for the Angels – Paul Simon
Quicksand – David BowieI’m sure there are lots of others that I haven’t thought of or don’t even know, but yeah, in comparison to other letters, it’s a pretty short list.
Next time let’s list songs that start with “X” LOL

Excellent list!! I’m especially fond of Garbage

Wow, Roger, you really put me to shame there. In my defense, I’m not familiar with most of these songs. I’ve heard Queenie Eye, but I didn’t think of it. I did think of Quinn the Eskimo, but I didn’t realize that it had ever been released under any title other than The Mighty Quinn.

Hi David,
a very nice idea and quite a head scratcher. If we also add french it will be even easier 🙂
I try this one:
-
Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese… The task will be simpler in any of those Romance languages where most of the interrogative pronouns begin with q. Even Latin. (Anyone know any good Gregorian chants?)
Interesting video, by the way, Juergen. That forearm keyboard can be added to your topic of unusual musical instruments!

Did you mean something like that David ?
(almost in time for the advent season…)
-
Yeah, but for the sake of the joke I was thinking of the ancient format without instrumentation:

Most of what I can think of has already been covered here, but I have a few to add:
Quadrophenia, A Quick One, While He’s Away and The Quiet One – The Who (Quadrophenia is the title of both the album and one of the instrumental songs is contains)
Queen of the Go-Go Girls – Mudcrutch (early Tom Petty band)
Queen or the Roller Derby – Leon Russell
Queen of the Supermarket – Bruce Springsteen
Question – Moody Blues
Questions for the Angels – Paul Simon
Quicksiler Girl – Steve Miller Band
Quiet Nights – Diana Krall
Quite Ugly One Morning – Warren Zevon
Quittin’ Time – Mary Chapin Carpenter

I’m with you David, Q is a tough one. Kudos to Roger and Paul for coming up with such an extensive list.
